Single mom Delilah is thrilled when her darling daughter Daisy is tipped to become head girl of her prep school. But things don’t turn out quite as expected, and mother and daughter soon need to deal with much more than disappointment when Daisy’s long-time rival, Rosie, is seriously injured. Was it an accident or is someone to blame? Accusations are flung at Delilah’s daughter, both in the school’s corridors and on social media. With the help of her business partner, Henry, and her best friend, Cass, Delilah attempts to clear Daisy’s name. But pressure from the school is mounting and Delilah’s in a state. Did Daisy do it? What other secrets has her daughter been keeping from her? And what kind of mother has she been to Daisy? Featuring a useless ex-husband and a dashing widower who is more than a little interested in Delilah, Pamela Power’s new novel takes a darkly humorous look at school life, a modern-day battleground for parents and pre-teens alike.

After an exceptionally wild Mother's Day where she danced like there was no tomorrow, picked a fight with a stranger and collided with the floor, Johannesburg scriptwriter and author, Pamela Power, is forced to take a hard look at her drinking habits. She realises that although she does not need to find an AA group immediately, she might be a serial binge drinker and needs to take back control. In this honest, yet humorous account of her year of not getting sh*tfaced, Pamela examines her long relationship with alcohol. She is shocked to realise just how much of a crutch alcohol has been for her. There is always a bottle of wine or prosecco around to help her manage the many demands of life as a freelancer and a parent. Pamela starts her journey to sobriety at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic as her family faces financial troubles and life in the suburban parks of Johannesburg isn't so blissful anymore. Through her, we experience all the frustration, irritation and surprising benefits of going dry. In dealing with her dependence on alcohol, Pamela also confronts her troubled relationship with her parents. While many other sober-curious books portray sobriety as the only answer, in the end Pam finds a sweet spot between total sobriety and binge drinking: moderation.

Stories of women in the Bible have been interpreted by artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, and biblical commentators for centuries. However, in many cases, these later interpreters have often adapted and altered the Bible to fit their own view(s) of the stories. Ironically, these later renderings usually serve as the basis for the generally accepted view(s) of biblical women. For example, many readers of the Bible assume that Eve is to blame for the disobedient act in the Garden of Eden, or that Delilah seduced Samson and then cut his hair. A closer look at these assumptions, though, reveals that they are not based on the Bible, but are mediated through the creations of later interpreters. In this book, the author examines eight such women's stories, and shows how later readers interact with the biblical stories to construct sometimes fanciful, sometimes faulty views of these women. Dan Clanton, Jr. broadens our awareness of the influence of these later readings on how we understand biblical women so that we can be more critical in our engagement with them, and become more familiar with what the Bible actually says about the women whose stories it contains.

“You’re listening to Delilah.” Delilah, the most listened-to woman on American radio, has distinguished herself as the “Queen of Sappy Love Songs” and America’s ultimate romance guru. But Delilah’s life off-air is all the more extraordinary—a life full of trials, forgiveness, faith, and adventure. In One Heart at a Time, Delilah’s heartfelt account of her own story reveals what shaped the voice that 9 million listeners know and love. Today, Delilah is the founder of an NGO called Point Hope, the owner of a 55-acre working farm, and an inductee of the National Radio Hall of Fame. But to achieve this, she often had to pave her own way. Disowned by her father, divorced, and fired from a dozen jobs over the years, Delilah pushed forward through family addiction and devastating loss, through glass ceilings and red tape. Her consistent goal to help those in need took her everywhere from the streets of Philadelphia to refugee camps in Ghana. Along the way, Delilah was blessed by thirteen children—ten of them adopted. Though many of them contend with special needs and the forever effects of a broken foster care system, her children have been able to transform their own remarkable lessons into guiding lights for other kids in need. Just as Delilah has done. One Heart at a Time exposes the real woman behind the microphone. In her easy-going style and characteristic, beloved voice, Delilah tells her deeply moving life story as the series of miracles it is.

This collection of essays from feminist Biblical scholars including Carol Delaney, Rachel C. Rasmussen, Cynthia Baker and Mieke Bal, starts from the premise that reading is always in the plural. It is never just the text alone that is read, but also the scholarly meta-text. The essays encourage the reader to challenge his or her presuppositions that she has brought to an analysis of the Hebrew Bible, before returning the scrutiny to the text and using a narratological approach to investigate. This insight raises such questions as: who speaks? who sees? and who acts? This now familiar means of analysing texts has lost none of its power to demand answers otherwise not forthcoming. The essays provide a rigorous re- assessment of familiar stories of the Hebrew Bible and suggest we encourage the practice of a hermeneutics of suspicion.
