""This is absolutely not a collection of poems about depression. Sue Holt's beautifully crafted poetry allows us to join her on a very intimate journey, exploring fear and wonder, faith and doubt, despair and hope. Her work is both thought provoking and inspiring."" - Tom McAlpine, Chair, Mood Swings Network DescriptionThis is Sue Holt's second collection of poetry. Sue is a poet who suffers from mental distress. Her first book 'Poems of Survival' was Sue's opportunity to open up the Pandora's box that contained memories of her past and her day to day struggle with manic depression, in doing this she was able to emerge to begin the slow process to accept her own worth. 'Depression Ate My Soul' reflects growth. Over time my spirit died, years of abuse stripped me of hope, faith and trust. Manic depression stripped me bare. One evening I imagined a different future, a faint glimmer of hope was ignited, spiritually I began to grow. Each psychotic episode teaches me to take a different perspective and enables me, eventually, to move on. I believe depression ate my soul, but through the process of mental illness and my willingness to learn and adapt spiritually, I have developed a stronger, more creative, courageous one."" Sue Holt About the AuthorSue Holt is a talented poet who has struggled with manic depression for 15 years. She writes from the heart with a rare honesty that reflects how mental illness touches her life. Sue writes to express her pain while in contrast she shares her intense faith, which has given her a deep understanding of God and His immense love. Many people relate to her pain and in doing so are given the opportunity to connect with their own, and Sue's desire is that they too will begin their own spiritual journey.Sue lives in Lancashire, England, with her husband and teenage son. She is greatly inspired by nature and when not writing can be found in the garden, walking, painting and working on pieces of sculpture. She believes in healing through self expression.

SHAME ATE MY SOUL is a memoir that reads like a fiction novel you can't put down. Susan Walz shares her inspiring personal story of rising above the stigma of mental illness, suicide attempts, addiction, and misdiagnosis, and eventually finding the triumph of recovery.Spanning over two decades, Susan Walz lived with the mental illness diagnoses of postpartum depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD and borderline Personality disorder. Travel along with her on her journey through many struggles and losses that eventually lead to her discovery of the life lessons necessary to achieve her triumph of healing and recovery. She openly and honestly speaks from her heart educating and helping others understand and feel what it's like to live with severe mental illness and shows from her lived experiences what mental illness stigma is. Throughout the book, she inspires hope and discusses successful coping and recovery strategies and demonstrates that recovery and healing are possible. She is an example that you can live a happy, fulfilled and purposeful life living with mental illness. Shame Ate My Soul is a necessary book for everyone and anyone who enjoys reading an inspirational story that touches the heart, creates emotion, inspires hope and refreshes and renews the spirit and soul.Review and praise for SHAME ATE MY SOUL: "The gong show of psychiatric ineptitude continued, and her mental health declined. Every step of the way people just kept dropping the ball when it came to her care. Besides worrying about further stigma she'd be faced with after the suicide attempt, she had to go through being cut off Klonopin cold turkey and experiencing a terrible prolonged withdrawal. Finally, though, Sue was able to turn a corner. Her recovery has been truly remarkable, with the help of her faith, becoming a grandma, and finally finding a doctor who was able to give her the right diagnosis and get her on the right treatment.Sue has had a very difficult journey, and she's captured it really effectively in this book. It has a loud and clear anti-stigma message, as well as a very hopeful message for recovery. This is a very powerful book and I highly recommend it." -Ashley Peterson, Author of Managing the Depression Puzzle, Making Sense of Psychiatric Diagnosis and Psych Meds Made Simple

Care Of The Soul In Medicine written by Thomas Moore and has been published by Hay House, Inc this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07-15 with Religion categories.

Few experiences stir the emotions and throw a person into crisis as illness does. If affects not only the body but also the spirit and soul. Illness is about life and death, fear and hope, love and conflict, spirit and body. And yet, the healthcare system is not structured around these considerations—our doctors and other medical professionals are not trained to deal with the whole person. Care of the Soul In Medicine is Moore’s manifesto about the future of healthcare. In this new vision of care, Moore speaks to the importance of healing a person rather than simply treating a body. He gives advice to both healthcare providers and patients for maintaining dignity and humanity. He provides spiritual guidance for dealing with feelings of mortality and threat, encouraging patients to not only take an active part in healing but also to view illness as a positive passage to new awareness. While we don’t fully understand the extent to which healing depends on attitude; it has been shown that healing needs to focus on more than the body. The future of medicine is not only in new technical developments and research discoveries; it is also in appreciating the state of soul and spirit in illness.

"'Psychotic Interlude' may come over as less polished than Sue Holt's previous work but there is a rawness and honesty that shines through. The combination of poetry and insights into Sue's mindset at the time she was writing are very powerful. There is a real sense of the struggle, the search for identity and a sense of self. 'Psychotic Interlude' is not just about a person's struggle with their mental health status but a more profound statement about humanity. " - By Paul Andrews, fellow bi-polar traveller, occasional writer and friend Description 'Psychotic Interlude' is a woman's quest for answers. Sue Holt has bipolar disorder and struggles with religious delusions. Her analytical mind tries to make sense of faith and her delusional beliefs. 'Psychotic Interlude' enables the reader to become intimately involved in Sue Holt's life as her mind begins to unravel leaving her emotionally unable to deal with day to day life, leading to a subsequent admission to a psychiatric hospital. Through poetry and personal memoirs Sue reveals her confusion and mounting doubts. However, her faith in God shimmers as a thread of gold throughout. 'Psychotic Interlude' follows on from Sue's previous books 'Poems of Survival' and 'Depression Ate My Soul' and reflects her growth of character, strength and courage. Many readers of 'Psychotic Interlude' will question their own beliefs and experiences of complex and misunderstood issues. As the years move on I think many of us don't really consider the subtle but sometimes enormouschanges that can take place in the human mind over the course of time. We often hear people say, 'I'd love to be eighteen again and know what I know now'¦' but how many of us would want to put our past lives out there for the whole world to see; especially when the path that we've walked was chest deep in pain and turmoil? It was in January of 2006 that I decided to write PIECES OF MY PATH. What precipitated my putting finger to keyboard was located in a cardboard box, stashed away and wrapped in a black garbage bag high upon a shelf in the guest bedroom closet. I was thinking a lot about my 'dark days' and how far I had come from those crippling depressed times in the early 90's so I decided to pull down that black bag filled with memories and take a peek back into a bleak, yet rewarding, past.
