Verkörpert die Geschichte Josefs ein liberales Judentum, das auch in der Diaspora seinen Glauben an JHWH leben kann? Nach einer allgemeinen Einführung in die Problematik des Verhältnisses der Ägypter und Asiaten sind die anschliessenden Kapitel jeweils dreigeteilt. Einer (bewusst möglichst wörtlichen) Übersetzung des jeweiligen Abschnittes folgen eine Textpräsentation aus theologischer und eine Kommentierung aus ägyptologischer Sicht. Das Schlusswort bildet eine Zusammenfassung. Dieses Buch ist nicht nur für den Fachwissenschaftler, sondern auch für einen nicht spezialisierten, aber theologisch interessierten Personenkreis geschrieben. Es möchte aufzeigen, welche Texte und Gedanken Ägyptens der biblischen Erzählung zugrunde liegen, beziehungsweise als Inspiration gedient haben könnten.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 1,0, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Institut für Geschichtswissenschaften), Veranstaltung: PS Der Aufstieg Makedoniens, 24 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Obwohl bereits zu Lebzeiten Alexanders, und verstärkt nach seinem Tod, viele Darstellungen über ihn geschrieben wurden, ist die Quellenlage problematisch. Kallisthenes - von dem nur noch Fragmente vorliegen - war Historiker im Gefolge Alexanders und ist daher nicht als "neutrale" Quelle anzusehen, sondern als jemand der die Geschichte so aufschrieb, wie Alexander sie überliefert haben wollte. Das früheste - heute noch vollständig vorliegende - Geschichtswerk ist aus dem ersten Jahrhundert vor Christus im 17. Buch der "Bibliothéke historiké" von Diodor erhalten. Die nach Auffassung zahlreicher Historiker beste und verlässlichste Behandlung stammt von Arrian, der aber erst im 2. Jh. nach Christus lebte - rund 400 Jahre nach Alexanders Tod. Die Quellen zu Alexander sind folglich mit großer Vorsicht zu behandeln und grundsätzlich immer kritisch zu hinterfragen. Die moderne Literatur hat ebenfalls zahlreiche Werke zu Alexander III. - und auch dessen Aufenthalt in Ägypten - verfasst. Allerdings gibt es ein deutliches Ungleichgewicht in den Thematiken. Während Alexanders Zug zum Ammon-Zeus-Heiligtum in der Oase Siwa sowie zu seinen Motiven für den Zug nach Ägypten häufig thematisiert wird, ist die Anzahl der Publikationen zur Neuordnung der Verwaltung sowie zu Kleomenes von Naukratis geradezu dürftig. Diese Proseminararbeit soll untersuchen, warum Alexander die Besetzung Ägyptens - die von einigen Historikern als unverständlicher Umweg dargestellt wird - als wichtigen Baustein seiner Eroberungspläne benötigte. Der Autor vertritt die These, dass Alexander sowohl wegen finanziellen und militärischen Gründen als auch aus Prestigegründen Ägypten erobern musste.
