Medio siglo de asociaciones y movimientos sociales. Esta obra trata sobre los antecedentes históricos y la evolución de los movimientos sociopolíticos en España, desde los años setenta del pasado siglo hasta el 2015. Primero, se explican las principales teorías y autores que han reflexionado e investigado sobre los movimientos sociales y sobre el asociacionismo, aclarando conceptos y definiciones. Sin ser exhaustivos, se presentan a continuación algunas características de los movimientos sociales del último medio siglo, explicando los principales de cada década, desde las históricas Asociaciones de Vecinos y la importancia de los movimientos ciudadanos en la transición política hacia la democracia, pasando por los movimientos de solidaridad y voluntariado, y los altermundistas y antiglobalización de principios de siglo. Algunos de estos movimientos han utilizado métodos y estrategias de acción que, por su forma o contenido, se pueden interpretar como precedentes de los utilizados por los movimientos de protesta más recientes, que denominamos de «indignados » o «movimiento 15M». Se trata así el surgimiento del 15M y las diferencias y semejanzas con los movimientos sociales históricos y modernos. Experiencias, logros y no logros del 15M. Algunas consecuencias para el sistema político y para los movimientos sociales tradicionales. Finalmente se investiga sobre los escenarios y retos de futuro, a partir de los movimientos sociales más significativos de los últimos años, como son la Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca (PAH) y las mareas ciudadanas. Spain After the Indignados/15M Movement explores how the aftershocks of the 2007 Great Recession restructured Spain’s political sphere and political imaginary. It brings together a representative sample of Spain’s leading progressive voices, including two of the five founding members of the Podemos party. The essays herein explore the areas of economics, politics, ecology, social change, media, and cultural politics in order to present a broad, critical account of contemporary Spain, with a special emphasis on emerging forms of sociopolitical contestation, self-organizing, democratic participation, and radical politics. The edited volume argues that Spanish cultural studies—which originally gravitated toward celebratory accounts of capitalist modernization, the cultural Movida and the advent of a postmodern Spain—must continue to build a new cultural politics that not only challenges the accepted narrative of the Spanish Transition to democracy, but that is committed to confronting the civilizatory challenges currently faced.

This book addresses the changing relationships among political participation, political representation, and popular mobilization in Spain from the 1766 protest in Madrid against the early Bourbon reforms until the citizen revolution of 1868 that first introduced universal suffrage and led to the ousting of the monarchy. Popular Participation and the Democratic Imagination in Spain shows that a notion of the “crowd” internally dividing the concept of “people” existed before the advent of Liberalism, allowing for the enduring subordination of popular participation to representation in politics. In its wider European and colonial American context, the study analyzes semantic changes in a range of cultural spheres, from parliamentary debate to historical narrative and aesthetics. This book analyzes the issue of food insecurity in Europe. It highlights the role played by cities in promoting resilient, solidarity-based and food and nutritionally safe communities. Desde el mismo momento del reconocimiento de la libertad de asociación en 1868, el derecho de asociación y el registro de asociaciones constituyeron una realidad conexa, un binomio inescindible que ha informado todas y cada una de las leyes generales de asociaciones de nuestra historia constitucional. Hasta tal punto es así que la actual Ley Orgánica 1/2002, de 22 de marzo, reguladora del Derecho de Asociación (LODA), contempla la inscripción registral dentro de su parte orgánica y, por tanto, integrando el contenido esencial del derecho fundamental de asociación. A pesar de esto, la doctrina ha mostrado una escasa inclinación por el registro de asociaciones, que aparece siempre tangencialmente tratado, cuando no directamente ignorado.La presente obra, por tanto, se centra en la institución del registro general de asociaciones, en su configuración jurídica y en su efectivo funcionamiento para ofrecer una serie de elementos de debate que le permitan progresar hacia un servicio público más completo y confiable. En efecto, el derecho de las asociaciones a su inscripción en un registro público permite distintas concepciones, habiéndose decantando la LODA por un modelo declarativo e informativo cuando la Constitución de 1978 (CE) no impide adoptar otro distinto de carácter constitutivo y oponible, el que el autor considera el más idóneo en favor del emprendimiento asociativo y de la seguridad jurídica (art. 9.2 y 3 CE). Al mismo tiempo, las asociaciones comunes, en tanto que entidades de derecho privado, vienen demostrando en los últimos años una creciente intervención en la vida social y económica, cuyas necesidades de todo tipo, en particular para ordenar jurídicamente sus muchas vicisitudes de constitución, organización, actividad y extinción, no están debidamente cubiertas por la LODA, una norma breve y de mínimos que se muestra hoy insuficiente y desbordada por la complejidad del movimiento asociativo de ámbito estatal.En mayo de 2022 se cumplirán veinte años de vigencia de la LODA, y sería el momento óptimo para realizar un balance de su aplicación y una reflexión sobre lo que en el futuro deba ser el desarrollo normativo del art. 22 CE. Las ideas que aquí se plantean sobre el modelo registral general y sobre el despliegue orgánico y funcional de las asociaciones comunes podrían ser un buen punto de partida para acometer dicha tarea.José Rafael Rojas Juárez nació en Porcuna (Jaén).
