The successful design and construction of iconic new buildings relies on a range of advanced technologies, in particular on advanced modelling techniques. In response to the increasingly complex buildings demanded by clients and architects, structural engineers have developed a range of sophisticated modelling software to carry out the necessary structural analysis and design work. Advanced Modelling Techniques in Structural Design introduces numerical analysis methods to both students and design practitioners. It illustrates the modelling techniques used to solve structural design problems, covering most of the issues that an engineer might face, including lateral stability design of tall buildings; earthquake; progressive collapse; fire, blast and vibration analysis; non-linear geometric analysis and buckling analysis . Resolution of these design problems are demonstrated using a range of prestigious projects around the world, including the Buji Khalifa; Willis Towers; Taipei 101; the Gherkin; Millennium Bridge; Millau viaduct and the Forth Bridge, illustrating the practical steps required to begin a modelling exercise and showing how to select appropriate software tools to address specific design problems.

Fire Safety Design For Tall Buildings written by Feng Fu and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-18 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Fire Safety Design for Tall Buildings provides structural engineers, architects, and students with a systematic introduction to fire safety design for tall buildings based on current analysis methods, design guidelines, and codes. It covers almost all aspects of fire safety design that an engineer or an architect might encounter—such as performance-based design and the basic principles of fire development and heat transfer. It also sets out an effective way of preventing the progressive collapse of a building in fire, and it demonstrates 3D modeling techniques to perform structural fire analysis with examples that replicate real fire incidents such as the Twin Towers and WTC7. This helps readers to understand the design of structures and analyze their behavior in fire.

This book provides the readers with a timely guide to the application and integration of interdisciplinary principles from the fields of kinetic design, mechanics, energy and materials engineering in the fields of architecture and engineering design. It explores the potential integration of autoreactive solutions, unpowered kinetic systems triggered by changes in the surrounding latent energy conditions, within man-made artefacts with added functionality and efficiency. Related interdisciplinary parameters are explored discussing morphology, mechanics, energy and materials in detail. Each chapter examines the implications of autoreactivity in one specific field, providing a general overview and listing relevant motion design parameters and identifying for the reader those aspects that have a high potential to open up for new design directions. The book guides readers through a highly multidisciplinary field of design, offering an extraordinary resource of knowledge for professional architects, engineers and designers, as well as for university teachers, researchers and students. Interdisciplinary research is presented throughout the book as a powerful resource that can serve architecture and design, and a learning method to rethink innovative, optimal and sustainable solutions.

Seismic Analysis And Design Using The Endurance Time Method written by Homayoon E. Estekanchi and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-07 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The endurance time method (ETM) is a seismic analysis procedure in which intensifying dynamic excitations are used as the loading function, and it provides many unique benefits in the design of structures. It can largely reduce the computational effort needed for the response history analysis of structures. This aids in the practical application of response history-based analysis in problems involving very large models and/or requiring numerous analyses to achieve optimal design goals. A single response history analysis through ETM provides an estimate of the system response at the entire range of seismic intensities of interest, thus making it ideal for applications such as seismic risk assessment, life-cycle cost analysis, and value-based seismic design. Conceptual simplicity also makes ETM a useful tool for preliminary response history analysis of structural systems. Features: Presents full coverage of the subject from basic concepts to advanced applied topics. Provides a coherent text on endurance time excitation functions that are essential in endurance time analysis. Seismic Analysis and Design using the Endurance Time Method serves as a comprehensive resource for students, researchers, and practicing structural engineers who want to familiarize themselves with the concepts and applications of the endurance time method (ETM) as a useful tool for dynamic structural analysis.

These proceedings include most of the available information on this major seismic event and its consequences. With an estimated moment magnitude of 7.7 and a heavy toll in terms of human and economic losses, it ranks as the largest intermediate-depth earthquake in Europe in the twentieth century. Nevertheless, because of the difficult conditions in the 1940s, the lessons learnt after the Vrancea earthquake were not extensively shared with the international scientific community and thus, this book fills a gap in the literature discussing the knowledge acquired after major disasters. Past experience together with current understanding of the 1940 Vrancea earthquake are presented along with the latest information on Romanian seismicity, seismic hazard and risk assessment, and seismic evaluation and rehabilitation of buildings and structures. Moreover, it includes excerpts from Romanian post-disaster reports and textbooks concerning the earthquake.
