Design Transactions presents the outcome of new research to emerge from ‘Innochain’, a consortium of six leading European architectural and engineering-focused institutions and their industry partners. The book presents new advances in digital design tooling that challenge established building cultures and systems. It offers new sustainable and materially smart design solutions with a strong focus on changing the way the industry thinks, designs, and builds our physical environment. Divided into sections exploring communication, simulation and materialisation, Design Transactions explores digital and physical prototyping and testing that challenges the traditional linear construction methods of incremental refinement. This novel research investigates ‘the digital chain’ between phases as an opportunity for extended interdisciplinary design collaboration. The highly illustrated book features work from 15 early-stage researchers alongside chapters from world-leading industry collaborators and academics.

Computer-aided design syst, ems have become a big business. Advances in technology have made it commercially feasible to place a powerful engineering workstation on every designer's desk. A major selling point for these workstations is the computer aided design software they provide, rather than the actual hardware. The trade magazines are full of advertisements promising full menu design systems, complete with an integrated database (preferably "relational"). What does it all mean? This book focuses on the critical issues of managing the information about a large design project. While undeniably one of the most important areas of CAD, it is also one of the least understood. Merely glueing a database system to a set of existing tools is not a solution. Several additional system components must be built to create a true design management system. These are described in this book. The book has been written from the viewpoint of how and when to apply database technology to the problems encountered by builders of computer-aided design systems. Design systems provide an excellent environment for discovering how far we can generalize the existing database concepts for non-commercial applications. This has emerged as a major new challenge for database system research. We have attem pted to avoid a "database egocentric" view by pointing out where existing database technology is inappropriate for design systems, at least given the current state of the database art. Vlsi Design Environments written by George Zobrist and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-04-17 with Technology & Engineering categories.

VLSI Design Environments investigates design alternatives such as object oriented data modelling. The difficulty of automating chip architecture designs is caused by the complexity of the problem. The explosion of design decions make a heuristic approach necessary. PLAYOUT aims at the solution of system problems based on hierarchy, top-down planning, silicon complier presentations, advances in encoding logic synthesis and a microarchitecre and logic optimization system. PLAYOUT supports the physical design from entering the structure of digital systems to the generation of the mask. The concept for autonomous tools with a clear interface to the network description and the simple interface to the graphics is presented. This enables the designer to have a great influence on the configuration of the placement of the schematic diagram. Substantial progress is being made in behavioural and logic synthesis, both of which depend upon specifications.

Analytic Methods For Design Practice written by Gyung-Jin Park and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-05-31 with Technology & Engineering categories.

In the competitive world of modern engineering, rigorous and definite design methodologies are needed. However, many parts of engineering design are performed in either an ad-hoc manner or based on the intuition of the engineer. This is the first book to look at both stages of the design process – conceptual design and detailed design – and detail design methodologies for every step of the design process. The following analytic design methodologies are introduced and their usefulness is explored with many mathematical and practical examples: Axiomatic design; Optimization; Design of experiments; Robust design; Structural optimization; Dynamic response optimization; and Multidisciplinary optimization. Case studies show how practical design problems can be solved with analytic design methods. Students will find this book an excellent introduction to the subject. The book’s practical focus will interest practising engineers as a practical handbook of design.

Cad Frameworks written by Pieter van der Wolf and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Since the early 1980s, CAD frameworks have received a great deal of attention, both in the research community and in the commercial arena. It is generally agreed that CAD framework technology promises much: advanced CAD frameworks can turn collections of individual tools into effective and user-friendly design environments. But how can this promise be fulfilled? CAD Frameworks: Principles and Architecture describes the design and construction of CAD frameworks. It presents principles for building integrated design environments and shows how a CAD framework can be based on these principles. It derives the architecture of a CAD framework in a systematic way, using well-defined primitives for representation. This architecture defines how the many different framework sub-topics, ranging from concurrency control to design flow management, relate to each other and come together into an overall system. The origin of this work is the research and developmentperformed in the context of the Nelsis CAD Framework, which has been a working system for well over eight years, gaining functionality while evolving from one release to the next. The principles and concepts presented in this book have been field-tested in the Nelsis CAD Framework. CAD Frameworks: Principles and Architecture is primarily intended for EDA professionals, both in industry and in academia, but is also valuable outside the domain of electronic design. Many of the principles and concepts presented are also applicable to other design-oriented application domains, such as mechanical design or computer-aided software engineering (CASE). It is thus a valuable reference for all those involved in computer-aided design.

Over the past decade, with greater emphasis being placed upon shorter lead times, better quality products, reduced product costs, and greater customer satisfaction, the topic of Engineering Design has received increased interest from the industrial and ac ademic communities. Considerable effort has been directed at developing design process methodologies and building computer tools that focus upon relatively narrow aspects of design, but many key problems in Engineering Design research and practice remain unanswered. Resulting from the First International Engineering Design Debate held in Glasgow, UK in late 1996, this volume discusses the main issues concerning the improvement of design productivity. Covering design studies, design development, concurrent engineering and design knowledge and information, it attempts to derive a common understanding of the basic factors, problems and potential solutions involved.
