This book explores the interplay between English for specific purposes (ESP) and English-medium instruction (EMI), the complementary ways in which EMI and ESP are implemented in different contexts, as well as teaching and assessing challenges. English language teaching (ELT) in higher education serves mainly to enhance the professional language competences of students. It can take several forms, including English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and Academic English (AE). Ideas and Options in English for Specific Purposes does not promote any one approach, but rather identifies and illustrates those in evidence today.
