This work focuses on the Acadian vernacular - transmitted orally to the present day - of the French speakers of the Port-au-Port peninsula in the extreme west of the island of Newfoundland in Canada. The result is a differential dictionary based on a corpus of field studies dating mostly from the early 1990s and amassing responses from 56 native informants, all of them bilingual (French/English). It comprises 2240 main entries and about 5400 examples of usage. Each article is followed by remarks of a comparative and historical nature.

Archa Verbi accepts articles and text editions which fall within the scope of the Society's objectives and thematic purpose. The Archa Verbi. Subsidia book series publishes monographs and conference proceedings originating from the wider area of the study of medieval theology. Manuscripts submitted to Archa Verbi undergo a double-blind peer review. Two senior scholars selected by the "scriptores" evaluate the quality of the research and make recommendations concerning the study's suitability for publication. On the basis of the peer reviews the "scriptores", together with the "coetus editionis", render a decision concerning the publication of the manuscript. Authors will be notified of the decision and - where applicable - of the evaluator's recommendations and criticisms. If a manuscript is rejected, we strongly encourage resubmission of the article after careful revision, since each resubmission will be examined independent of the original review process. The review section of the yearbook discusses new books from the field of medieval theology and from those associated fields of study relevant to medieval theology. These associated disciplines are, in particular, Church History, History of Exegesis, History of Theology, History of Philosophy, History of Canon Law, and Art History, that are considered relevant insofar as they advance the study and knowledge of medieval theology.

Mediaevalia Lovaniensia 39Communication leads to an evolution of knowledge, and the free exchange of knowledge leads to fresh findings. In the Middle Ages things were no different. The inheritance of ancient knowledge deeply influenced medieval thought. The writings of ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle reached medieval readers primarily through translations. Translators made an interpretation of the source-text, and their translations became the subject of commentaries. An understanding of the complex web of relations among source-texts, translations, and commentaries reveals how scientific thinking evolved during the Middle Ages. Aristotle's Problemata, a text provoking various questions about scientific and everyday topics, amply illustrates the communication of ideas during the transition between antiquity and the Renaissance.

In the middle ninth century, the Frankish king Charles the Bald invited the established theologian Eriugena to translate the work of the fifth-century Dionysius from Greek to Latin. The translation proved enduring, and was copied often and bound with the Scholia translated by Anastasius the Librarian and excerpts from Eriugena's Periphyseon, all of which Harrington (U. of Dallas) includes in his edition with English translation on facing pages. The Dancer and the Dance is a collection of thirteen essays in translation studies. Unlike many similar collections that have appeared in the past decades, it is the product of theory integrated with practice; in it, the authors have steered clear of theorizing in a vacuum, making sure that their findings tally with what actually happens in translation; there is no attempt at putting forward hypotheses based on mere speculation. As translation theorists and/or translators whose specialties cover translation studies, linguistics, cultural studies, computer-aided translation, Chinese literature, English literature, comparative literature, and creative writing, the thirteen authors have taken up the challenge of unravelling the mystery of what, in I. A. Richards’s words, “may very probably be the most complex type of event yet produced in the evolution of the cosmos.” Impossible as the task may have seemed, they have all succeeded, each in his/her own way, in tracing out many warp and weft threads, as well as hitherto undiscovered patterns in the vast, gorgeous, and mysterious tapestry woven by God after Babel.

Translation is living through a period of revolutionary upheaval. The effects of digital technology and the internet on translation are continuous, widespread and profound. From automatic online translation services to the rise of crowdsourced translation and the proliferation of translation Apps for smartphones, the translation revolution is everywhere. The implications for human languages, cultures and society of this revolution are radical and far-reaching. In the Information Age that is the Translation Age, new ways of talking and thinking about translation which take full account of the dramatic changes in the digital sphere are urgently required. Michael Cronin examines the role of translation with regard to the debates around emerging digital technologies and analyses their social, cultural and political consequences, guiding readers through the beginnings of translation's engagement with technology, and through to the key issues that exist today. With links to many areas of study, Translation in the Digital Age is a vital read for students of modern languages, translation studies, cultural studies and applied linguistics.
