Die Studie arbeitet die Regionalismusforschung im Bereich der Internationalen Beziehungen «metatheoretisch» auf. Sie wird dabei geradezu als eine Einführung in die IB-Theorien, vom Realismus bis zum Konstruktivismus, in einen weiten theoretischen Rahmen gebettet. Im Vordergrund der Analyse stehen die internationalen Regionen. Hierzu sind verschiedene Theorieansätze vorgelegt worden. Hervorzuheben sind die Entwürfe des Regionalen Sicherheitskomplexes (Buzan/Wæver, 2003) und der Regionalen Ordnungen (Lake/Morgan, 1997 sowie Hubel/Kaim/Lembcke, 2000), deren zentrale Aussagen zur Konstituierung und internen Verfasstheit weltpolitischer Regionen diskutiert werden. Die wesentlichen Gesichtspunkte der Entwürfe münden in einer «check list», die als ein Leitfaden für empirische Studien dienen kann.

Festivals are an important part of the music event industry, especially for young adults. But compared to the beginnings, their meanings have changed: Attendees want to celebrate without any compromises. However, today mankind is confronted with the greatest sustainability challenges, which are not satisfactorily tackled. Still, with a rising awareness of these issues, companies’ interest in including sustainability issues in their communications strategy has increased. This study attempts to explore how a Sustainability Communication (SC) concept needs to be designed to reach fans of music festivals and influence them towards a more sustainable behaviour. For that purpose, it deals with sustainability management, background information about SC and the attendees’ needs. Moreover, it shows rays of hope for this issue in the festival landscape. Afterwards the results of a survey conducted among festival fans (more than 750 participants), examining their attitude regarding sustainability issues, were assessed. This study aims to equip the reader with a thorough knowledge of the potential of Sustainability Communication within and through festivals, as well as give an insight into how a SC strategy must consider the needs of fans to realize a more sustainable event.

This book investigates whether a power shift has taken place in the Asia-Pacific region since the end of the Cold War. By systematically examining the development of power dynamics in Asia-Pacific, it challenges the notion that a wealthier and militarily more powerful China is automatically turning the regional tides in its favour. With a special emphasis on Sino-US competition, the book explores the alleged linkage between the regional distribution of relevant material and immaterial capabilities, national power and the much-cited regional power shift. The book presents a novel concept for measuring power in international relations by outlining a composite index on aggregated power (CIAP) that includes 55 variables for 44 regional countries and covers a period of twenty years. Moreover, it develops a middle power theory that outlines the significance of middle powers in times of major power shifts. By addressing political, military and economic cooperation via a structured-focused comparison and by applying a comparative-historical analysis, the book analyses in depth the bilateral relations of six regional middle powers to Washington and Beijing.

Konflikte in der Ostukraine, auf der Krim, dem Balkan und dem Kaukasus – Das Europaratssystem befindet sich in einer Krise und das hat zur Renaissance eines vergessenen Instruments des europäischen Menschenrechtsschutzes geführt: Der Staatenbeschwerde nach Art. 33 EMRK. Sie ermöglicht es allen Vertragsstaaten als "kollektiven Garanten der Konvention" (Präambel) jede Konventionsrechtsverletzung zu rügen. Nach Jahrzehnten der Apathie gegenüber Menschenrechtsverletzungen in anderen europäischen Staaten wurde die Staatenbeschwerde nach der Jahrtausendwende plötzlich wieder vermehrt genutzt. Allerdings wurde Art. 33 EMRK vor allem als Streitbeilegungsmechanismus missbraucht, anstatt sein Potenzial für die Lösung systemischer Probleme bei der Umsetzung der Menschenrechte konsequent zu nutzen. Diese Arbeit fordert deswegen die Renaissance der Staatenbeschwerde neu auszurichten, um so einen europäischen Beitrag zum Menschheitsziel, der effektiven Durchsetzung der Menschenrechte, zu leisten.
