Seit dem sogenannten "PISA-Schock" hat es keine so massive Aufforderung zur Neuorientierung unserer Schulen gegeben, wie dies gegenwärtig unter dem Schlagwort der "digitalen Bildung" geschieht. Große und längst auch politisch mächtige Digitalkonzerne versuchen, Einfluss auf schulpolitische Entscheidungen zu nehmen. Zentrales Anliegen dieser Schrift ist daher eine Diskussion der Frage, wie eine bildungstheoretisch fundierte Auseinandersetzung mit der Digitaltechnik beschaffen sein sollte und auf welche Weise von solchen Positionen her über den pädagogischen Sinn bestimmter technischer Mittel begründet geurteilt werden kann. In der gegenwärtigen Diskussion gerät zunehmend auch die "kulturelle Bildung" zugunsten einer wieder stärkeren bildungspolitischen Konzentration auf die MINT-Fächer (Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaft und Technik) ins Hintertreffen. Das wäre jedoch auch für diese Lernbereiche verhängnisvoll, denn neuere Forschungen zeigen, dass naturwissenschaftliche und künstlerische Interessen sehr viel enger verbunden sind, als man das bisher angenommen hat. Einige aktuelle Forschungen dazu werden hier vorgestellt und mit Blick auf Perspektiven der kulturellen Schulentwicklung erörtert. In einem solchen Denk-Zusammenhang können dann auch Chancen wie Gefahren der Digitaltechnik pädagogisch begründet erörtert werden.
