Data analysis is of upmost importance in the mining of big data, where knowledge discovery and inference are the basis for intelligent systems to support the real world applications. However, the process involves knowledge acquisition, representation, inference and data, Bayesian network (BN) is the key technology plays a key role in knowledge representation, in order to pave way to cope with incomplete, fuzzy data to solve the real-life problems. This book presents Bayesian network as a technology to support data-intensive and incremental learning in knowledge discovery, inference and data fusion in uncertain environment.

When I ?rst came across the term data mining and knowledge discovery in databases, I was excited and curious to ?nd out what it was all about. I was excited because the term tends to convey a new ?eld that is in the making. I was curious because I wondered what it was doing that the other ?elds of research, such as statistics and the broad ?eld of arti?cial intelligence, were not doing. After reading up on the literature, I have come to realize that it is not much different from conventional data analysis. The commonly used de?nition of knowledge discovery in databases: “the non-trivial process of identifying valid, novel, potentially useful, and ultimately understandable patterns in data” is actually in line with the core mission of conventional data analysis. The process employed by conventional data analysis is by no means trivial, and the patterns in data to be unraveled have, of course, to be valid, novel, useful and understandable. Therefore, what is the commotion all about? Careful scrutiny of the main lines of research in data mining and knowledge discovery again told me that they are not much different from that of conventional data analysis. Putting aside data warehousing and database m- agement aspects, again a main area of research in conventional database research, the rest of the tasks in data mining are largely the main concerns of conventional data analysis.

As we stand at the precipice of the twenty first century the ability to capture and transmit copious amounts of information is clearly a defining feature of the human race. In order to increase the value of this vast supply of information we must develop means for effectively processing it. Newly emerging disciplines such as Information Engineering and Soft Computing are being developed in order to provide the tools required. Conferences such as the International Conference on Information Processing and ManagementofUncertainty in Knowledge-based Systems (IPMU) are being held to provide forums in which researchers can discuss the latest developments. The recent IPMU conference held at La Sorbonne in Paris brought together some of the world's leading experts in uncertainty and information fusion. In this volume we have included a selection ofpapers from this conference. What should be clear from looking at this volume is the number of different ways that are available for representing uncertain information. This variety in representational frameworks is a manifestation of the different types of uncertainty that appear in the information available to the users. Perhaps, the representation with the longest history is probability theory. This representation is best at addressing the uncertainty associated with the occurrence of different values for similar variables. This uncertainty is often described as randomness. Rough sets can be seen as a type of uncertainty that can deal effectively with lack of specificity, it is a powerful tool for manipulating granular information.

As mobile devices continue becoming a larger part of our lives, the development of location acquisition technologies to track moving objects have focused the minds of researchers on issues ranging from longitude and latitude coordinates, speed, direction, and timestamping, as part of parameters needed to calculate the positional information and locations of objects, in terms of time and position in the form of trajectory streams. Recently, recent advances have facilitated various urban applications such as smart transportation and mobile delivery services.Unlike other books on spatial databases, mobile computing, data mining, or computing with spatial trajectories, this book is focused on smart transportation applications. This book is a good reference for advanced undergraduates, graduate students, researchers, and system developers working on transportation systems.

What is data intelligence? How can data intelligence influence education system systematically? The paradigm shift of scientific research implies a coming age of data-driven educational research and practice. This book presents research and practice of data intelligence in education from three levels: (i) educational governance, (ii) teaching practice, and (iii) student learning. Each chapter gives an analysis of fundamental knowledge, key themes, the state-of-the-art technologies and education application cases. This interdisciplinary book is essential reading for anyone interested in applying big data technology in education and for different stakeholders including education administrators, teachers, students, and researchers to broaden their minds to wisely use educational data to solve complex problems in the education field.

Online social networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, offer millions of members the opportunity to befriend one another, send messages to each other, and post content on the site — actions which generate mind-boggling amounts of data every day.To make sense of the massive data from these sites, we resort to social media mining to answer questions like the following:

This book provides an example of the capitalization of computer and wiki technology to support collaborative writing among Mainland Chinese upper primary school students. It presents the results of a study showing the application of the Design-Based Research (DBR) methodology to design a Wiki-based Collaborative Process Writing Pedagogy (WCPWP) to help students with their writing in the Chinese context. The WCPWP is designed and developed based on social constructivist theory and the social view of writing process theory, as well as in consideration of the Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework.Primarily aimed at researchers and practitioners in the fields of collaborative learning, TPACK, and Chinese writing, as well as Chinese language educators, this book will also deepen primary educators' understanding of the links among technology, pedagogy and content, and guide educators in the integration of social media, as well as the design of effective matching pedagogic strategies, in their teaching of writing.

This volume contains lecture notes of the 14th Reasoning Web Summer School (RW 2018), held in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, in September 2018. The research areas of Semantic Web, Linked Data, and Knowledge Graphs have recently received a lot of attention in academia and industry. Since its inception in 2001, the Semantic Web has aimed at enriching the existing Web with meta-data and processing methods, so as to provide Web-based systems with intelligent capabilities such as context awareness and decision support. The Semantic Web vision has been driving many community efforts which have invested a lot of resources in developing vocabularies and ontologies for annotating their resources semantically. Besides ontologies, rules have long been a central part of the Semantic Web framework and are available as one of its fundamental representation tools, with logic serving as a unifying foundation. Linked Data is a related research area which studies how one can makeRDF data available on the Web and interconnect it with other data with the aim of increasing its value for everybody. Knowledge Graphs have been shown useful not only for Web search (as demonstrated by Google, Bing, etc.) but also in many application domains.
