"Diversity" als theoretisches und praktisches Konzept wird in der Wissenschaft, in Unternehmungen, in der Verwaltung, im Non-Profit Bereich und in Nicht-Regierungs-Organisationen unter dem Gesichtspunkt diskutiert, was Vielfalt in den heutigen Gesellschaften bedeutet und wie Unterschiede in der Gesellschaft als Bereicherung erfahren werden können. Während in den Sozialwissenschaften das "Diversity Konzept" und "Diversity Studies" Konjunktur haben, scheint in der Politikdidaktik und in der politischen Bildung die Relevanz des Konzeptes noch nicht ausgelotet. Diese Schrift will dazu einen Beitrag leisten. Im Zentrum des Bandes stehen die Beiträge der achten Jahrestagung der GPJE vom 5. - 6. Mai 2007 in Loccum. Sie gehen im Wesentlichen der Frage nach, welche Impulse und Anregungen und neue Herausforderungen sich für Politikdidaktik und politische Bildung aus der Diskussion des Diversity Konzepts in der Rechtswissenschaft, der Erziehungswissenschaft, der Politikwissenschaft und der Soziologie ergeben.

Does the Nordic model of education still stand by its original principles and safeguard education for all? This Open Access volume is a carefully crafted collection of chapters that investigate the different aspects of equity, equality and diversity across the education systems in the Nordic countries. Based on data from various national and international large-scale assessments, the volume provides a better understanding of both the functions and foundations of the Nordic model, along with how the concepts mentioned above are enacted in practice. Across the chapters, data from different national and international large-scale assessment studies are used for cross- and single-country analyses on a variety of issues related to equity, equality and inequality in diverse educational settings. The investigations address different subject domains (i.e., mathematics, science, reading), age and grade groups, but also issues related to teachers and the schools themselves. In addition to these empirical chapters, the book addresses the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of the ideas and tools embedded in the phenomena of equity and equality and how they have met in the Nordic model of education.

Eine aus den Vereinigten Staaten stammende Unternehmensphilosophie versucht, der Diversity der Belegschaft eines Unternehmens gerecht zu werden und diese für sich zu nutzen: Diversity Management. Unterschiedliche Motivationen und Umsetzungsstrategien prägen Diversity Management in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Dabei sind nicht nur privatwirtschaftliche Unternehmen betroffen, sondern auch der öffentlich-rechtliche Arbeitssektor. Maßnahmen und Schritte zum Managen von Diversity in Unternehmen legen nahe, dass Personengruppen vorerst identifiziert und anschließend unterstützt werden, um deren persönlichen Lebensbedingungen gerecht zu werden und ihnen auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise entgegenzukommen. Aus alltagstheoretischer Sicht stellen diese Maßnahmen einen moralisch durchaus zu vertretenden Schritt dar. Aber aus soziologischer Sicht betrachtet wird deutlich: Bestimmten Personengruppen werden bestimmte Merkmale zugeschrieben, die gelten als „Diversity Managementbedürftig“ und erfahren eine Unterstützung, die anderen Personengruppen unter Umständen verwehrt bleibt. Fördert dies das diskriminierungsfreie Zusammensein innerhalb einer Belegschaft? Und die Integration der von Diversity Management betroffenen Personengruppen in die Gesamtbelegschaft?
