Diving Stations is the inspiring story of Captain George Hunts career. Born in Uganda and then educated in Glasgow, he was determined to join the Navy and at 13 years old he entered HMS Conway. His prewar years saw him serving worldwide. In 1939, on the outbreak of war he was already serving in submarines. Over the next six years he was rammed twice, sunk once and had hundred of depth charges dropped around him. He gave more than he got! While in command of the Unity Class Submarine Ultor—mainly in the Mediterranean—he and his crew accounted for an astonishing 20 enemy vessels sunk by torpedo and 8 by gunfire as well as damaging another 4 ships. His fifteenth mission was described by the Admiralty as unsurpassed in the Annals of the Mediterranean Submarine Flotilla. After the War George continued his distinguished naval career becoming Senior Naval Officer West Indies (SNOWI). He emigrated to Australia where he lives today.

Taiwan is a Pacific island – actually several islands: a big one and some smaller satellites – surrounded by warm tropical seas. It is easily accessible, has excellent transportation and is a first-world society with out-going, friendly, laid-back people. Especially in the south and on several of the outlying islands, there is some very good scuba diving and also a network of dive centres and resorts with first-class professional staff and equipment. They provide services for a young generation of Taiwanese, who are driving development in the sport with considerable enthusiasm. Yet, when divers elsewhere in the world think about diving destinations, Taiwan is rarely even a blip on their radar screen. Very few people outside Taiwan have ever thought to enquire about the diving there, and very few people inside Taiwan have ever thought to tell anyone about it. Until now... In Dive into Taiwan, Simon Pridmore unveils the underwater secrets of these islands and guides you around expertly, making sure you travel easily, dine well and appreciate the unique culture and traditions of Taiwan as well as its marine treasures. This is the first English-language guide to diving the reefs and wrecks of hitherto unknown locations such as Penghu, Xiaoliuqiu, Hengchun, Lanyu (Orchid Island), Ludao (Green Island) and Taiwan’s Northeast Coast and places them firmly on the international diving map. Authoritative, well written and beautifully illustrated by Taiwanese photographer Kyo Liu’s superb underwater images, Dive into Taiwan opens the door to a new and exciting destination for travelling divers.

Bottom Time written by Norbert Weissinger and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-03-07 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Join author Norbert Weissinger as he narrates his most memorable dives, starting with his first scuba dive while attending college, to the grueling work in the Gulf of Mexico as a commercial oilfield diver. Experience the thrills, terrors, mystifying beauty, and awful monotony of life at sea. Meet the colorful and eccentric personalities that risk their lives daily in the development of offshore oilfields. Commercial divers go under water every day to earn a living. Strangely, they enjoy the abuse of the sea, and if they survive a ten-year career, they can take home a wealth of memories about a world that few have ever seen. Bottom Time is filled with travel anecdotes, dive narratives, and vivid descriptions of the undersea world. While working on the sea floor was sometimes lonely and frightening, the author experienced sublime moments when he felt privileged to be a visitor to an alien realm. The triggerfish, tarpon, groupers, sea turtles, and barracuda became his friends, and he wished that bottom time would never end. After spending countless hours under water, the author found not only beauty and exotic marine life, but inspiration. Life spent on the bottom is truly living in the moment, where past and future dissolve, and nothing matters but a breath.
