Este libro tiene por objeto el análisis de ciertos aspectos vinculados con la mejora de la actividad docente. La estructura del libro está dividida en cuatro apartados. El primero de ellos, abordara las cuestiones vinculadas a la educación mediática y la cultura de la participación, haciendo hincapié en el papel de las redes sociales, los y las influencers, el aprendizaje expandido, colaborativo y abierto. El apartado segundo, trata acerca de relevancia de la evaluación, la gestión y las políticas educativas que son necesarias para la adecuada implementación de los distintos modelos docentes en los organismos e instituciones educativas. El apartado tercero, ahonda en la cuestión de la docencia de la ciencia en nuestros días y, en particular, dada su relevancia social, de las ciencias de la salud. No es posible, a la altura de nuestro tiempo, concebir una sociedad justa, equitativa y educada, si no es en el seno de una colectividad que aboga por el cuidado de su salud, que valora el cuidado del organismo en su conjunto y, opta, de entre todos los caminos posibles, por hacer valido el lema latino: Mens sana in corpore sano. Por último, el estudio de las cuestiones anteriores requiere, como un prerrequisito transversal, el manejo correcto y la adecuada formación en la búsqueda, revisión y análisis documental. A ello se dedica, con extensión, el cuarto y último apartado del libro.

El presente libro, se sitúa justamente en medio de este debate crítico, proponiendo nuevas perspectivas para el estudio de la enseñanza de la Historia y las Ciencias Sociales para el siglo XXI, siendo una iniciativa que surge de un grupo de didactas, investigadores, estudiantes de doctorado y profesores y profesoras en ejercicio que forman parte de REDIECS (Red chilena de Investigación y Enseñanza de las Ciencias Sociales). Los y las integrantes de la red han sido y son profesores de aula, han cursado y están cursado estudios de postgrado en el área de la Didáctica de las Ciencias Sociales, preferentemente en Barcelona, y en su retorno a Chile se han ido incorporando a diferentes Centros de Educación Superior a lo largo del territorio nacional. Uno de estos centros corresponde al Instituto de Historia de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. Instituto que tiene una destacada trayectoria en el ámbito de la Didáctica de las Ciencias Sociales, puesto que: aquí convergen especialistas en didáctica procedentes de tres escuelas españolas (Universidad de Valladolid, Universidad de Barcelona y Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona); hay un estrecho vínculo entre la Didáctica, la Disciplina y las Prácticas educativas; se organiza anualmente el seminario de Didáctica de la Historia y las Ciencias Sociales; y se edita la revista Andamio, primera revista de didáctica en Chile. El Instituto de Historia y REDIECS han estrechado sus lazos de colaboración para seguir contribuyendo a la construcción de la didáctica en Chile, en Latinoamérica y en el mundo a través de la publicación de este libro. El libro es, por tanto, una extensión de las acciones y contribuciones del Instituto de Historia a la Didáctica y las Ciencias Sociales sobre la enseñanza de la Historia y la formación de ciudadanos, pero además es el reflejo de las trayectorias académicas de los integrantes de la red y de los propósitos de la agrupación. REDIECS declara que su finalidad consiste en contribuir al mejoramiento de la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de la Historia y las Ciencias Sociales, pero, también, a la formación de una ciudadanía crítica que tome decisiones fundamentadas y se posicione ante los problemas sociales del mundo; para alcanzar una democratización de la vida social y la defensa de ideales ligados a la justicia social. Con este propósito se espera construir conocimientos y mejorar las prácticas pedagógicas de manera directa y horizontal entre la escuela, la universidad y la investigación. Es en este contexto surge la iniciativa de escribir el presente libro “Didáctica de las Ciencias Sociales para el siglo XXI”. El texto aborda teóricamente las líneas de investigación más recientes en Didáctica de las Ciencias Sociales y también plantea propuestas para vincular la teoría con la práctica pedagógica. A style is any pattern we see in a person's way of accomplishing a particular type of task. The "task" of interest in the present context is education-learning and remembering in school and transferring what is learned to the world outside of school. Teachers are expressing some sort of awareness of style when they observe a particular action taken by a particular student and then say something like: "This doesn't surprise me! That's just the way he is. " Observation of a single action cannot reveal a style. One's impres sion of a person's style is abstracted from multiple experiences of the person under similar circumstances. In education, if we understand the styles of individual students, we can often anticipate their perceptions and subsequent behaviors, anticipate their misunderstandings, take ad vantage of their strengths, and avoid (or correct) their weaknesses. These are some of the goals of the present text. In the first chapter, I present an overview of the terminology and research methods used by various authors of the text. Although they differ a bit with regard to meanings ascribed to certain terms or with regard to conclusions drawn from certain types of data, there is none theless considerable agreement, especially when one realizes that they represent three different continents and five different nationalities.
