In much the same way that a cluttered home can stop you from living your best life, it can also sabotage your best efforts at controlling your weight. Most people who diet don't just go on one diet and succeed; they go on three or five or ten. And for most people, the diets fail because most diets are only about losing weight - they don't drill down into why you are carrying that weight around and why you want to lose it. In his years as a professional organiser, Walsh found time and time again that people hid their real problems behind their "stuff." Peter believes that the secret to understanding how you got here and how to fix it all starts with one simple question: "Are you living the life you imagined?" Weight loss is much simpler when you can focus not on the excess baggage of the kilos, but on how your weight is holding you back from being the person of your dreams. Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?will show you how to redefine your relationship to what you own and consume, and in so doing, redefine how you live your life. Once you understand the reasons behind the clutter and chaos in your home and your eating habits, you can take control of your kitchen, your pantry and your refrigerator to achieve a healthy balance. Often a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Peter Walsh is also the author of the New York Timesbestseller It's All Too Much.

From the New York Times bestselling author of It's All Too Much and organizational expert on TLC's Clean Sweep comes a revolutionary guide on how to declutter and create the healthy life and body you've always imagined for yourself. Diets don't work. Why not? Because they focus on what foods we should and shouldn't eat but completely ignore everything else that makes us fat. Look at your own situation: You say you want to lose weight, but you just can't stop indulging. You say you'd exercise more if only you had the time, yet you spend precious hours every night in front of the TV doing what? Munching nutrition-free snacks and drinking supersized beverages. Peter Walsh, the bestselling author of It's All Too Much: An Easy Plan for Living a Richer Life with Less Stuff, believes that the secret to successfully losing weight is to forget about calorie counting and weekly weigh-ins. Instead you need to focus on how, why, and where you eat. When it comes to clearing clutter—the fat in our homes—it isn't about the stuff itself, it's about the life you want to live. The same is true for losing weight: It's not about the pounds, it's about living the life you deserve in the body you want. Using his expert techniques honed from years as a clutter expert and organizational consultant on TLC's Clean Sweep, Peter helps you address how the clutter in your kitchen, your pantry, and your home is directly related to the clutter on your body and negatively affects your ability to lead a full and healthy life. This book shows you how to clean up not just the spaces where you eat, but the routines around them: from planning meals and shopping to dinnertime rituals. Peter knows all the pitfalls and all the excuses. In Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat? he gives you the tools—and courage—you need to get over all your excuses, face the issues, and make the change to a better life.

The Anatomy of Consumerism is a story of greed and obsession and consumption. Of waste and environmental degradation. Of destruction and despair. It is the story of being human. In this earnest account of a serious problem in which we are all implicated, we come to terms with our collective obsession with material consumption. The Anatomy of Consumerism tracks this consumption from the Industrial Revolution, through a ravenous stretch of excessive production and acquisition, all the way to our digital present—a period during which we overconsume as a matter of course and visit irreparable damage on our natural environment as a result. It is no wonder the consequences of human greed fester so hotly in debate among economists, social scientists, and environmentalists. The Anatomy of Consumerism wades into this debate’s center.

Society In The Self written by Hubert J. M. Hermans and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-09 with Psychology categories.
Instead of considering society as a social environment, Society in the Self begins from the assumption that society works in the deepest regions of self and identity, as expressed in phenomena like self-sabotage, self-radicalization, self-cure, self-government, self-nationalization, and self-internationalization. This leads to the central thesis that a democratic society can only function properly if it is populated by participants with a democratically organized self. In this book, an integrative model is presented that is inspired by three versions of democracy: cosmopolitan, deliberative, and agonistic democracy, with the latter focusing on the role of social power and emotions. Drawing on these democratic views, three levels of inclusiveness are distinguished in the self: personal (I as an individual), social (I as a member of a group), and global (I as a human being). A democratic self requires the flexibility of moving up and down across these levels of inclusiveness and has to find its way in fields of tension between the self and the other, and between dialogue and social power. As author Hubert Hermans explains, this theory has far reaching consequences for such divergent topics as leadership in the self, cultural diversity in the self, the relationship between reason and emotion, self-empathy, cooperation and competition between self-parts, and the role of social power in prejudice, enemy image construction, and scapegoating. The central message of this book is reflected in Mahatma Gandhi's dictum: "Be the change you want to see in the world."

In Enough Already: Clearing the Mental Clutter to Become the Best You, the process was taken a step further, exploring the impact that clutter has in our emotional and spiritual lives. The big question is: Now what? You've decluttered your home but what are you left with? For many people, it's some of the same feelings of wanting more and feeling deprived that you can't have everything you wish for. Many of us have never, in our entire lives, had to make the tough decisions about how to buy less, consume less, live with less, and embrace the entire concept of "less is more." Today, with the changes in the economy affecting our very homes and livelihoods, less is no longer a choice but a necessity.Lighten Up offers a roadmap for all those struggling with the lingering desire for too much stuff, on the one hand, and too little resources on the other which leads to a life that is essentially a financial and emotional lie. This is a book for each of us now called, by choice or force of circumstances, to make significant changes in our long-term habits of over-consumption and mindless acquisition of 'the more.' Peter Walsh starts the process by explaining that in order to know what you need, you have to know what you have. He asks readers to take 3 audits: a life audit (your overall goals and how close you are to them), a home audit (what do you own and what is it costing you), and a financial audit (how honest are you about what you make, what you own, and what you owe). These audits and Peter's step by step direction help readers to clearly see how to clear up their financial clutter (and any emotional baggage that goes with it) so they can reframe how they view what they own, what they can afford and how to prioritize what matters most for them and their families.
