Vorbemerkungen zur Konzeption und Komposition dieses Sonderheftes Dieses Sonderheft will eine Bilanz der politikwissenschaftlichen Dritte Welt-For schung in der Bundesrepublik ziehen. Dieser Versuch muß unvollständig und selek tiv bleiben. Auch ein dickleibiger Sammelband kann die Differenzierungs-und Spezia lisierurigsprozesse, theoretischen Kontroversen und Paradigmenwechsel, die diese Spe zialdisziplin in ihrer kaum drei Jahrzehnte langen Entwicklungsgeschichte durchge macht hat, nur schwerpunktmäßig rekonstruieren. Einige Entstehungsprobleme ver schärften noch diese Selektionswirkung: Erstens wollte der Herausgeber bei der Auswahl der Themen und Autoren keine Rücksicht auf die verbandspolitische Spaltung der deutschen Politikwissenschaft nehmen, die vor allem in den Bereich der Internationalen Politik hineinwirkt. Diese Absicht gelang nur teilweise, weil die Verbandsspaltung offensichtlich die Bereit schaft zum Dialog und zur Kontroverse über Verbandsgrenzen hinweg lähmt (vor al lem dann, wenn dieser Dialog in einem Publikationsorgan der DVPW stattfinden soll). Die Verbandskonkurrenz erwies sich also bisher nicht als diskursive Stimulanz, son dern als kontraproduktives Nebeneinander. Unter Verweigerungen zur Mitarbeit litt vor allem der Versuch, die in den 70er Jahren geführte "große Debatte" zwischen Modernisierungs-und Dependenztheoretikern kri tisch aufzugreifen und konstruktiv fortzuführen. Es hätte sich beispielsweise gelohnt, über den von Manfred Mols (1982) erhobenen Vorwurf der Ökonomisierung, des Ge genstands- und Profilverlusts einer spezifisch politikwissenschaftlichen Entwicklungs lehre zu streiten. Ersatzweise soll dieser Disput zumindest punktuell in dieser Einlei 1 tung geführt werden.
