Skills are vital for building resilient economies and societies. By helping individuals develop a diverse range of skills and empowering them to apply these skills effectively, skills policies play a crucial role in responding to emerging threats, such as environmental degradation and harmful applications of technologies used to collect, generate, and exchange information. This edition of the Skills Outlook highlights the importance of supporting individuals in acquiring a wide range of skills, at varying levels of proficiency, to promote economic and social resilience. Additionally, the report acknowledges the role of attitudes and dispositions in enabling skills development and effective skills use. It also emphasises the need for policy makers to monitor the costs associated with policies aimed at promoting the green and digital transition, and how the transition affects inequalities. Training opportunities that respond to emerging labour market needs and efforts to facilitate their uptake can promote a just and inclusive green and digital transition. In turn, education systems that equip young people not only with skills but attitudes to manage change can ensure that the green and digital transition is sustainable in the longer term.

Focusing on the emerging intercultural encounters in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), this book brings together diverse perspectives from the region to explore understandings and practices of interculturality in different educational environments. Teaching and researching interculturality has received increasing attention from scholars and educators alike in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region due to intensified cross-cultural interactions resulting from recent economic and political changes. In the face of these challenges and complexities, this edited volume aims to (a) develop an in-depth understanding of how interculturality is processed and taught in different educational settings (middle school, high school, and university) by different actors (students, teachers and curriculum designers, policy makers, etc.) and (b) construct context-sensitive, critical, and nuanced perspectives, theories, and practices for teaching and researching interculturality. While 'interculturality' is an overarching notion in this book, the chapters use different 'labels' to refer to interculturality in education, communication, and research, with a particular focus on sociologies of knowledge in seven countries. This title is essential read for educators, researchers, and policy makers interested in the intersection of language and sociology, as well as intercultural education and communication in the region.

Relative to its population, Iceland experienced the largest inflow of immigrants over the past decade of any OECD country. Four out of five immigrants in Iceland have come from EU and EFTA countries, although there has been a recent increase in humanitarian arrivals. Employment rates are the highest in the OECD, for both men and women, reflecting the recent and labour market oriented nature of most immigration to Iceland. However, immigrants’ skills are often not well used, as witnessed by the high rate of formal overqualification. What is more, immigrants’ language skills are poor in international comparison and there is evidence of growing settlement of immigrants. Against this backdrop, Iceland is at a turning point in its integration framework, and seeks to develop a comprehensive integration policy for the first time. This review, the fifth in the series Working Together for Integration, provides an in depth analysis of the Icelandic integration system, highlighting its strengths, weaknesses, and potential areas for improvement. Earlier reviews in this series looked at integration in Sweden (2016), Finland (2018), Norway (2022) and Flanders (2023).
