Le travail est en effervescence. De nos jours, il est admis que le travail, activité à laquelle l'humain consacre une grande partie de sa vie, est étroitement lié au maintien de la santé mentale. Parmi les nombreux facteurs l'influençant, l'organisation du travail et la technologie sont de plus en plus pointées. Reposant sur une analyse multi-méthodes, l'auteur cherche à mieux comprendre les liens possibles entre l'organisation du travail dans une usine du secteur aéronautique et les problèmes de santé mentale chez des machinistes, à préciser les effets sur la santé mentale d'une transformation organisationnelle spécifiquement axée sur le contrôle de la qualité et enfin, à déchiffrer l'effet de changements technologiques sur l'identité de métier. Les résultats permettent de constater d'une part, les effets néfastes au niveau de la santé mentale d'un système paradoxal associé à un mode d'organisation du travail mal appliqué et d'autre part, les effets combinés de la technologie et d'un mode de gestion qui bloque le passage d'une identité de métier de machiniste routinisé vers celui d'une identité de métier de machiniste technologue, responsable et autonome.
