Vivimos en una época donde conviven nuevas tecnologías y crisis ecológica, enorme riqueza y pobreza renovada. En este siglo convulso, el trabajo sigue siendo una fuente compartida de dignidad, esclavitud, libertad o explotación. Y dentro de él, un concepto complejo: el trabajo cultural, que disuelve la idea del empleo para toda la vida y la relativa seguridad de ingresos. ¿Cómo estudiamos las singularidades de estos trabajadores y qué preguntas deberíamos estar haciendo al respecto? Este libro busca entender y explicar el pasado y presente del trabajo cultural y su rol en la globalización, prestando especial atención a algunos sectores claves de la cultura contemporánea, como la diversidad y libertad de expresión, la pugna entre artistas y tecnólogos o la cuestión del medioambiente y la obra. En la nueva división del trabajo cultural, es imprescindible que se incorporen la justicia laboral y ambiental, y que se genere una nueva solidaridad global con los trabajadores en el eslabón más débil de esta industria: aquellos, por ejemplo, que fabrican y reciclan dispositivos electrónicos en circunstancias opresivas y luchan por los derechos políticos. Éstas y otras propuestas se analizan en esta obra, que busca comprender y mejorar el futuro del trabajo cultural.

Desde hace dos o tres décadas la historia cultural ocupa un lugar preferente en la escena historiográfica, aunque con desfases cronológicos y distintas modalidades dependiendo de las circunstancias nacionales y, en este sentido, se impone una aproximación comparativa. El presente volumen pretende inscribirse en esta perspectiva, preguntándose por la realidad de un «giro cultural» en la historiografía mundial. Los numerosos colaboradores han aceptado responder a un plan de trabajo en el que, partiendo de la situación historiográfica de cada país, se analicen las modalidades de surgimiento y de estructuración de la historia cultural. La meta buscada no es normativa y contempla un planteamiento que combina el análisis de las obras, las singularidades de las coyunturas historiográficas y la organización de los mercados universitarios.

Estamos proyectando el análisis de una metamorfosis global en la actualidad, como los cambios de identidades en el proceso de transformación cultural. En consecuencia, buscamos un concepto de intercambio cultural, como una síntesis de diferentes factores y dimensiones en el mundo multi e intercultural. Igualmente, queremos enfocar los elementos etnoecológicos, tanto regionales como globales, para el establecimiento de una visión holística y armoniosa. Además, planeamos desarrollar criterios para una Didáctica de la Cosmovisión con paradigmas nuevos del Metabolismo Cultural como una opción frente al camino actual en el marco de la globalización, concebido como unidimensional y unidireccional, que conduce a un callejón sin salida por la realización de cierta monocultura, una tendencia central, monopólica, racional, fragmentada y material que cosifica el mundo. Lograrlo implica investigar horizontes hacia una concientización y la búsqueda de una convivencia integrativa, armónica e interrelacionada, complementaria que sirva de inspiración en el sentido de un Metabolismo Cultural, como una fórmula y síntesis para convivir en un marco globalizante, sin perder la heterogeneidad de las singularidades del regionalismo biológico y cultural, algo propio de las unidades, que da sentido y función de la sustentabilidad contundente en una totalidad (Holón) continua.

Presenting and interrogating an array of texts and discourses, this collection brings into focus a broad range of topics whose common denominator is the intersection between cultural productions and politics in different moments of the history of Latin America and Spain. From the struggles of class distinction, identity and community in 19th and 20th century and contemporary Latin America as explored in photography, literature and film, to how political and sexual transgressions from medieval times to the present are portrayed in Hispanic literature, and the ways that canonical and non-canonical texts in Spain have been defying hegemonic power relations in the 20th century and beyond. This volume provides fresh approaches from well-established scholars, as well as from a new generation of researchers whose works enlighten the reader about the rich facets of such intersections.
