This book has been designed for senior engineering, mathematics and systems science students. In addition, the author has used the optional, advanced sections as the basis for graduate courses in quality control and queueing. It is assumed that the students have taken a first course in probability but that some need a review. Discrete models are emphasized and examples have been chosen from the areas of quality control and telecommunications. The book provides correct, modern mathematical methods and at the same time conveys the excitement of real applications.

Multivariate Statistical Simulation written by Mark E. Johnson and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-11 with Mathematics categories.

Provides state-of-the-art coverage for the researcher confronted with designing and executing a simulation study using continuous multivariate distributions. Concise writing style makes the book accessible to a wide audience. Well-known multivariate distributions are described, emphasizing a few representative cases from each distribution. Coverage includes Pearson Types II and VII elliptically contoured distributions, Khintchine distributions, and the unifying class for the Burr, Pareto, and logistic distributions. Extensively illustrated--the figures are unique, attractive, and reveal very nicely what distributions ``look like.'' Contains an extensive and up-to-date bibliography culled from journals in statistics, operations research, mathematics, and computer science.

The Wiley-Interscience Paperback Series consists of selected books that have been made more accessible to consumers in an effort to increase global appeal and general circulation. With these new unabridged softcover volumes, Wiley hopes to extend the lives of these works by making them available to future generations of statisticians, mathematicians, and scientists. "The effort of Professor Fuller is commendable . . . [the book] provides a complete treatment of an important and frequently ignored topic. Those who work with measurement error models will find it valuable. It is the fundamental book on the subject, and statisticians will benefit from adding this book to their collection or to university or departmental libraries." -Biometrics "Given the large and diverse literature on measurement error/errors-in-variables problems, Fuller's book is most welcome. Anyone with an interest in the subject should certainly have this book." -Journal of the American Statistical Association "The author is to be commended for providing a complete presentation of a very important topic. Statisticians working with measurement error problems will benefit from adding this book to their collection." -Technometrics " . . . this book is a remarkable achievement and the product of impressive top-grade scholarly work." -Journal of Applied Econometrics Measurement Error Models offers coverage of estimation for situations where the model variables are observed subject to measurement error. Regression models are included with errors in the variables, latent variable models, and factor models. Results from several areas of application are discussed, including recent results for nonlinear models and for models with unequal variances. The estimation of true values for the fixed model, prediction of true values under the random model, model checks, and the analysis of residuals are addressed, and in addition, procedures are illustrated with data drawn from nearly twenty real data sets.

Dependability For Systems With A Partitioned State Space written by Attila Csenki and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Mathematics categories.

Probabilistic models of technical systems are studied here whose finite state space is partitioned into two or more subsets. The systems considered are such that each of those subsets of the state space will correspond to a certain performance level of the system. The crudest approach differentiates between 'working' and 'failed' system states only. Another, more sophisticated, approach will differentiate between the various levels of redundancy provided by the system. The dependability characteristics examined here are random variables associated with the state space's partitioned structure; some typical ones are as follows • The sequence of the lengths of the system's working periods; • The sequences of the times spent by the system at the various performance levels; • The cumulative time spent by the system in the set of working states during the first m working periods; • The total cumulative 'up' time of the system until final breakdown; • The number of repair events during a fmite time interval; • The number of repair events until final system breakdown; • Any combination of the above. These dependability characteristics will be discussed within the Markov and semi-Markov frameworks.

"Foundations of Probability Theory" offers a thorough exploration of probability theory's principles, methods, and applications. Designed for students, researchers, and practitioners, this comprehensive guide covers both foundational concepts and advanced topics. We begin with basic probability concepts, including sample spaces, events, probability distributions, and random variables, progressing to advanced topics like conditional probability, Bayes' theorem, and stochastic processes. This approach lays a solid foundation for further exploration. Our book balances theory and application, emphasizing practical applications and real-world examples. We cover topics such as statistical inference, estimation, hypothesis testing, Bayesian inference, Markov chains, Monte Carlo methods, and more. Each topic includes clear explanations, illustrative examples, and exercises to reinforce learning. Whether you're a student building a solid understanding of probability theory, a researcher exploring advanced topics, or a practitioner applying probabilistic methods to solve real-world problems, this book is an invaluable resource. We equip readers with the knowledge and tools necessary to tackle complex problems, make informed decisions, and explore probability theory's rich landscape with confidence.

With these newunabridged softcover volumes, Wiley hopes to extend the lives ofthese works by making them available to future generations ofstatisticians, mathematicians, and scientists. "The writing style is clear and informal, and much of thediscussion is oriented to application. In short, the book is akeeper." –Mathematical Geology "I would highly recommend the addition of this book to thelibraries of both students and professionals. It is a usefultextbook for the graduate student, because it emphasizes both thephilosophy and practice of robustness in regression settings, andit provides excellent examples of precise, logical proofs oftheorems. . . .Even for those who are familiar with robustness, thebook will be a good reference because it consolidates the researchin high-breakdown affine equivariant estimators and includes anextensive bibliography in robust regression, outlier diagnostics, and related methods. The aim of this book, the authors tell us, is‘to make robust regression available for everyday statisticalpractice.’ Rousseeuw and Leroy have included all of thenecessary ingredients to make this happen." –Journal of the American Statistical Association
