Royal envoys Calarian and Benji embark on a quest in the alpine duchy of Tournel. Things go rapidly downhill when the duke plummets to his death from the tower wall. Whoops--that's going to be hard to explain. And it's not as though they can just grab the nearest human and make him the new duke. Or can they? Enter one Lars Melker, a slightly gullible cowherd built entirely of muscles and sunshine, who happily accepts their word when they tell him he's the duke now. Soon Calarian and Benji are knee deep in teaching Lars how to fake it until he makes it. They're also dealing with mountain trolls, a monster, a missing cow, and, most shocking of all, a growing realisation that their elves-with-benefits arrangement might be turning into something with feelings. Add in their mutual attraction to Lars, and suddenly the hills are alive with the sound of emotionally compromised collectivist anarchist elves. Also, what's the deal with those leather shorts?

Teaching Self Defense In Secondary Physical Education written by Joan L. Neide and has been published by Human Kinetics this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Education categories.

Most people have no clue how to defend themselves against a physical attack; they just hope it never happens to them. With Teaching Self-Defense in Secondary Physical Education, you can equip your students with the knowledge and skills to minimize their chances of being the victims of violence and handle an attacker with minimal confrontation. Even if you have no knowledge of self-defense strategies, with this book you can teach your students personal safety, conflict-resolution techniques, and self-defense tactics. Joan Neide, a physical education teacher with a seventh-degree black belt in Uechi-ryu karate, has created an easy-to-use resource that will help you increase your students' awareness and avoidance abilities and learn the basic physical skills they need in order to defend themselves. Teaching Self-Defense in Secondary Physical Education is an ideal match for California physical education content standards, but it's equally effective for use in any state. With it you can help students - think critically and make sound decisions about their homes and personal safety, - learn the motor skills and movement patterns they need in order to defend themselves, - develop poise and confidence to react effectively in dangerous situations, and - define their own limitations as they apply to self-defense. Neide supplies 19 detailed lesson plans that cover up to 20 days for a two- or four-week unit. These plans are designed for coed classes in 50- to 60-minute periods, but Neide provides practical strategies to adapt the plans for any class size and setting. This flexibility makes it easy for you to use these plans within your own curriculum. The book also offers in-depth safety guidelines and suggestions that will enable you to create a safe and nonthreatening learning environment. Further, the plans are well illustrated and easy to follow, and they include all the handouts, overheads, and assessments you need for teaching a self-defense unit. Neide includes a detailed description of each self-defense skill and release in a simple, structured format. You are shown step by step how to perform each stance, step, technique, and release. Teaching cues and class organization are also included. Finally, Neide includes activities that focus on home and personal safety. Teaching Self-Defense in Secondary Physical Education contains clear-cut, well-organized, and flexible lesson plans that allow you to teach self-defense and leave your students prepared and poised to defend themselves.

Discusses the growth mechanisms of tin whiskers and the effective mitigation strategies necessary to reduce whisker growth risks This book covers key tin whisker topics, ranging from fundamental science to practical mitigation strategies. The text begins with a review of the characteristic properties of local microstructures around whisker and hillock grains to identify why these particular grains and locations become predisposed to forming whiskers and hillocks. The book discusses the basic properties of tin-based alloy finishes and the effects of various alloying elements on whisker formation, with a focus on potential mechanisms for whisker suppression or enhancement for each element. Tin whisker risk mitigation strategies for each tier of the supply chain for high reliability electronic systems are also described. Discusses whisker formation factors including surface grain geometry, crystallographic orientation-dependent surface grain boundary structure, and the localization of elastic strain/strain energy density distribution Examines how whiskers and hillocks evolve in time through real-time studies of whisker growth with the scanning electron microscope/focused ion beaming milling (SEM/FIB) Covers characterization methods of tin and tin-based alloy finishes such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) Reviews theories of mechanically-induced tin whiskers with case studies using pure tin and other lead-free finishes shown to evaluate the pressure-induced tin whiskers Mitigating Tin Whisker Risks: Theory and Practice is intended for the broader electronic packaging and manufacturing community including: manufacturing engineers, packaging development engineers, as well as engineers and researchers in high reliability industries.

The original idea that electromagnetic waves propagate in every direction with the same universal constant, the speed of light, corresponds with Maxwell's Theory of Electrodynamics in 1865. With the introduction of the Laser it became clear that it is also possible to emit a beam of light in one single direction while the speed of light in the directions perpendicular to the direction of propagation equals zero. In general, the laser frequencies are so high that the Laser radiation will not be harmful for the human brains and organs. Recent developments however demonstrate that it is very likely that Eastern countries like China and Russia are already doing experiments with Extreme Low Frequency (ELF) Masers. The fundamental principle on which Lasers and Masers are operating is the Phenomenon of Resonance. The fundamental Condition for Resonance is that the dimensions of the cavity are at least the dimension of the wave length. The wavelength of a frequency of 2.000 [Hz] equals 150 [km]. This means that to build an ELF Maser for a radio frequency of 2.000 [Hz] a resonance cavity is needed with the dimensions of at least 150 [km] which is about five times the size of New York.

The Nuremberg Military Tribunals And The Origins Of International Criminal Law written by Kevin Jon Heller and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-11 with Law categories.

This book provides the first comprehensive legal analysis of the twelve war crimes trials held in the American zone of occupation between 1946 and 1949, collectively known as the Nuremberg Military Tribunals (NMTs). The judgments the NMTs produced have played a critical role in the development of international criminal law, particularly in terms of how courts currently understand war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression. The trials are also of tremendous historical importance, because they provide a far more comprehensive picture of Nazi atrocities than their more famous predecessor, the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg (IMT). The IMT focused exclusively on the 'major war criminals'-the Goerings, the Hesses, the Speers. The NMTs, by contrast, prosecuted doctors, lawyers, judges, industrialists, bankers-the private citizens and lower-level functionaries whose willingness to take part in the destruction of millions of innocents manifested what Hannah Arendt famously called 'the banality of evil'. The book is divided into five sections. The first section traces the evolution of the twelve NMT trials. The second section discusses the law, procedure, and rules of evidence applied by the tribunals, with a focus on the important differences between Law No. 10 and the Nuremberg Charter. The third section, the heart of the book, provides a systematic analysis of the tribunals' jurisprudence. It covers Law No. 10's core crimes-crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity-as well as the crimes of conspiracy and membership in a criminal organization. The fourth section then examines the modes of participation and defenses that the tribunals recognized. The final section deals with sentencing, the aftermath of the trials, and their historical legacy.
