En el marco de la política educativa española y en el contexto de la España del último tercio del siglo XX, la presente investigación pretende conocer la situación de la enseñanza de la Religión en el Sistema Educativo y la problemática que se plantea con la promulgación de la Ley Orgánica General del Sistema Educativo (LOGSE, 1990) En este estudio se analizan los aspectos jurídicos, sociales y políticos en torno a la enseñanza de la Religión. El leitmotiv, el tema fundamental (el motivo) de esta tesis es eminentemente pedagógico, puesto que el asunto central es la Enseñanza Religiosa Escolar. Estudios y trabajos anteriores, la investigación actual en estos últimos años y la experiencia y vivencia personal nos ha llevado a elaborar: Una propuesta para la integración curricular de la enseñanza de la Religión. Su aportación a la educación integral. Así se intitulan las conclusiones. Es esta nuestra aportación, respetuosa siempre con otras convicciones a una problemática tan secular como actual. Para realizar esta investigación ha sido preciso mirar atrás, acotar un tiempo y un espacio. Contextualizar desde la memoria histórica. La Constitución de Cádiz (1812) como referencia inicial hasta la promulgación de una decisiva Ley de Educación en lo relativo a la presencia curricular de la enseñanza de la Religión, la Ley Orgánica General del Sistema Educativo, LOGSE (1990). Y un espacio, España con sus gentes: sus ciudadanos y sus políticos, sus gobernantes y sus gobernados El pasado nos muestra y constatamos a lo largo de este trabajo de investigación, tras estudiar y analizar las fuentes originales legislativas, documentos históricos, documentos episcopales, boletines oficiales, bibliografía, que la enseñanza de la Religión ha sido y es una cuestión controvertida. Hemos comprobado que en los países de nuestro entorno han sabido abordar la cuestión de la integración de la Religión en el currículo básico de los alumnos con total normalidad, salvo en Francia...

La educación religiosa, es una materia controvertida. No ahora, como alguien pudiera pensar, sino desde la configuración del sistema educativo español en el siglo XIX. Este libro se centra en el lugar y estatus de la Religión como disciplina escolar en los distintos niveles y modalidades de enseñanza, y en las diferentes concepciones ideológicas que la conforman. Y lo hace desde distintos enfoques. Primero, de modo diacrónico, desde los comienzos del siglo XIX hasta la guerra civil, el franquismo y, sobre todo, los años transcurridos desde la Constitución de 1978 hasta el presente. Religion, Education, Dialogue and Conflict analyses the European Commission-funded REDCo project, which addressed the question of how religions might contribute to dialogue or conflict in Europe. Researchers in education from eight countries – the UK, Estonia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, the Russian Federation, Norway and Spain – studied how young Europeans of different religious, cultural and political backgrounds could engage in dialogue in the context of the school. Empirical studies conducted with 14-16 year old students included them offering their own perspectives and analyses of teaching and learning in both dialogue and conflict situations. Although there were some different national patterns and trends, most students wished for peaceful coexistence across differences, andbelieved this to be possible. The majority agreed that peaceful coexistence depended on knowledge about each other’s religions and worldviews, sharing common interests and doing things together. The project found that students who learn about religious diversity in school are more willing to discuss religions and beliefs with students of other backgrounds than those who do not. The international range of expert contributors to this book evaluate the results of the REDCo project, providing examples of its qualitative and quantitative studies and reflecting on the methods and theory used in the project as a whole. This book was originally published as a special issue of the British Journal of Religious Education.
