El 18 de octubre de 2019 nos hizo despertar y revivir varias experiencias, entre ellas evaluar y generar una serie de cambios tácticos y estratégicos dirigidos a la construcción de un país mejor. Del mismo modo, nos ofreció la posibilidad de discutir y construir en colectivo las acciones que nos harán sentir dueños y dueñas de nuestro futuro. El objetivo del presente libro es reunir a un grupo diverso de personas para compartir sus ideas respecto al proceso de cambios que está viviendo Chile, en el que se incluyen a académicos y académicas, dirigentes y dirigentas, como también a personas naturales de la sociedad civil. El resultado es una diversa reflexión sobre temas como la organización de las ciudades, las luchas de las comunidades por sus viviendas, las concesiones, el deporte, los derechos humanos, la educación, el arte, la infancia, el medioambiente, los inmigrantes, las personas mayores, la violencia del Estado, entre otros más. A la usanza de los partidos deportivos, este espacio temporal conocido como “entretiempo”, que divide en un antes y un después los acontecimientos, se configura como ese momento de reflexión sobre el pasado en el que se proyectan los cambios hacia el futuro. Este libro busca ser un aporte para la transformación que se está viviendo en Chile.

Bridging the fields of Religion and Latina/o Studies, this book fills a gap by examining the “spiritual” rhetoric and practices of the Chicano movement. Bringing new theoretical life to biblical studies and Chicana/o writings from the 1960s, such as El Plan Espiritual de Aztlán and El Plan de Santa Barbara, Jacqueline M. Hidalgo boldly makes the case that peoples, for whom historical memories of displacement loom large, engage scriptures in order to make and contest homes. Movement literature drew upon and defied the scriptural legacies of Revelation, a Christian scriptural text that also carries a displaced homing dream. Through the slipperiness of utopian imaginations, these texts become places of belonging for those whose belonging has otherwise been questioned. This book provides a new perspective on prosodically marked declaratives, wh-exclamatives, and discourse particles in the Madrid variety of Spanish. It argues that some marked forms differ from unmarked forms in that they encode modal evaluations of the at-issue meaning. Two epistemic evaluations that can be shown to be encoded by intonation in Spanish are obviousness and mirativity, which present the at-issue meaning as expected and unexpected, respectively. An empirical investigation via a production experiment finds that they are associated with distinct intonational features under constant focus scope, with stances of (dis)agreement showing an impact on obvious declaratives. Wh-exclamatives are found not to differ significantly in intonational marking from neutral declaratives, showing that they need not be miratives. Moreover, we find that intonational marking on different discourse particles in natural dialogue correlates with their meaning contribution without being fully determined by it. In part, these findings quantitatively confirm previous qualitative findings on the meaning of intonational configurations in Madrid Spanish. But they also add new insights on the role intonation plays in the negotiation of commitments and expectations between interlocutors.
