Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) are both common diseases seriously affecting human health. CVD refers to a broad range of disorders including diseases affecting the vasculature, the myocardium, the heart’s electrical circuit, and congenital heart disease. NDDs are conditions affecting brain development and function, mainly characterized by impairments of cognition, communication, and motor skills. Although the heart and brain develop in spatially distinct regions, they share similar genetic factors and molecular pathways which are crucial for a precise developmental trajectory. Actually, congenital CVD survivors are at a higher risk of NDD, and whole-exome sequencing revealed a significant overlap between high-risk congenital CVD and NDD genetic variants. For CVD and NDD, the clinical presentations are heterogeneous, and the etiologies are complex. Elucidating the potential pathogenic mechanisms is good for unveiling the pathophysiology and finding the novel therapeutic target.

This book presents the latest research on non-coding RNAs in cardiovascular disease, a major cause of death worldwide. Non-coding RNAs play a significant role in development, proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Since altered non-coding RNA expression is often associated with various diseases, their potential use in diagnostics, prognostics and therapeutics is an important current area of study. The book consists of six parts: 1) An overview of non-coding RNAs and cardiovascular system, 2) Bioinformatics and interactions, 3) Non-coding RNA regulation in cardiovascular system, 4) Non-coding RNAs and cardiovascular diseases, 5) Potential biomarkers and therapeutic implications, 6) Future prospects. It is particularly useful for researchers and students in the field of non-coding RNA and cardiovascular biology, as well as for cardiologists, pharmacologists and physiologists.

Recent years have seen spectacular advances in the filed of epigenetics. These have attracted the interest of researchers in many fields and evidence connecting epigentic regulation to brain functions has been accumulationg. Neurons daily convert a variety of external stimuli into rapid or long-lasting changes in gene expression. A variety of studies have centered on the molcular mechanisms implicated in epigentic control and how these may operte in concert. It will be critical to unravel how specifity is achieved. The focus of this volume is on critical epigenetic regulation and chromatin remodeling events that occur in the nervous system and on the presumed mechanisms that operate within neurons to translate them into long-lasting neuronal responses.

Nutrition Epigenetics And Health written by Burdge Graham and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-07 with Medical categories.

Epigenetics is emerging as an important factor in risk of diseases of global importance including obesity, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Unlike gene polymorphisms which have been the focus of understanding the role of inherited disease susceptibility for some time, epigenetic can be modified by environmental factors, in particular nutrition. Thus research into the role of epigenetics in disease has substantial potential for explaining the impact of the environmental factors such as diet on disease risk. Since epigenetic processes can be modified by nutrition, it may be possible to modify inappropriate epigenetic marks by nutritional interventions to reduce disease risk. This book will explore current understanding of the interaction between nutrition, epigenetics and disease risk, will place this knowledge in the context of global health and discuss the ethical implications of this research.
