Kevin Giles has been writing on women in the Bible for over forty years. In this book, What the Bible Actually Teaches on Women, he gives the most comprehensive account to date of the competing conclusions to this question and the issues surrounding it. To understand the bitter and divisive debate among evangelicals over the status and ministry of women, it needs to be understood that those who since 1990 have called themselves "complementarians" argue that in creation before the fall God set the man over the woman. Thus, the leadership of the man and the subordination of the woman in the home, the church, and wherever possible in the world (the whole creation) is the God-given ideal that is pleasing to God. It is this "theology" that Kevin Giles deconstructs and shows to be without a biblical foundation. Giles shows that he is fully conversant with the complementarian position and yet is unpersuaded by it. He sees it as an appeal to the Bible to preserve male privilege, similar to the appeals to the Bible to validate slavery and Apartheid; appeals to the Bible made by some of the best Reformed and evangelical biblical scholars, and now seen to be special pleading. Carefully studying the limited number of texts on which complementarians predicate their theology of the sexes, Giles finds not one of them actually teaches what complementarians claim. Furthermore, complementarians too often ignore the texts that are very difficult for them. In this book the ordination of women gets only passing mention. The constant focus is on whether or not the Bible subordinates women to men as an abiding theological principle.

The Biblical Case For Equality written by Arden Thiessen and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-14 with categories.

Dr. Arden Thiessen has drawn from his life-long experience as a pastor and Bible College professor to make an appeal for regarding men and women as equal in God's eyes. This equality should be visibly evident in every church that seeks to honor God in its worship and service. The book is biblical; it follows the narrative theme of the Scriptures. It is readable; it is written with the lay reader in mind. It is pastoral; it is suffused throughout with the desire to help women and men in the church grow up into the fullness for which they were created. The book is conservative and evangelical; it accepts the Holy Scriptures as truth from God. The author explains a three-fold Trinitarian basis for his case: 1) Men and women were created by God to be equal in his image, 2) Women and men are equal because they are now one through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, which has removed all the cultural barriers that traditionally set people apart (Gal. 3:28), 3) This equality was endorsed by the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost when the Spirit came upon all, women and men, alike. In view of these biblical realities, churches should assign its people to serve, not on the basis of gender, but on the basis of their particular giftedness.

Naming Neoliberalism written by Rodney Clapp and has been published by Fortress Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-20 with Religion categories.

Neoliberalism is the reigning, overarching spirit of our age. It consists of a panoply of cultural, political, and economic practices that set marketized competition at the center of social life. The model human is the entrepreneur of the self. Though regnant, neoliberalism likes to hide. It likes people to assume that it is a natural, deep structure--just the way things are. But in neoliberalism's train have come extreme inequality, economic precariousness, and a harmful distortion of both the individual and society. Many people are waking up to the destructive effects of this order. Anthropologists, economic historians, philosophers, theologians, and political scientists have compiled considerable literature exposing neoliberalism's pretensions and shortcomings. Drawing on this work, Naming Neoliberalism aims to expose the order to a wider range of readers--pastors, thoughtful laypersons, and students. Its theological base for this "intervention" is apocalyptic--not in the sense of impending doom and gloom, but in the sense of centering on Christ's life, death, and resurrection as itself the creation of a new and truer, more hopeful, and more humane order that sees the principalities and powers (like neoliberalism) unmasked and disarmed at the cross. The book carefully lays out what neoliberalism is, where it has come from, its religious or theological pretensions, and how it can be confronted through and in the church.
