About The Book Human Dynamic Wholeness (Collected Essays) After having expanded the areas of his research beyond psychology, psychotherapy and some other health-related areas, the author, Sam Razali, decided to write a book consisting of a number of essays on some of his favourite research areas; this is something that he always wanted to do Though the sixteen essays chosen are on various topics and from different fields, the author in writing each one of them has aimed at making them a) informative, b) critically thought-provoking. c) and of course, interesting and enjoyable to read. The reader will notice that the author has written them courageously, i.e. he has not been afraid to be different ----- different in expressing his thoughts and in putting forward his views and ideas. Many of the ideas that Sam Razali, in some of these essays, has expresseed will be regarded as highly controversial, and by some perhaps as "ridiculous". His article on A Cosmic Concept of Human Being will be fiercely contested by perhaps most psychologists. His views on the great philosopher, Hegel, may annoy many students of philosophy, and in the same essay his high regard for and some of his views on Karl Marx may be found by many people challenging. But the one that might be truly controversial, particularly among theologians and philologists, is "Aramaic:The Blessed Language" (Aramaic is the language spoken by Christ Jesus). Having said all these, it must also be said Sam Razali is confident that great majority of the readers not only will enjoy reading most of the essays, but many of them will also benefit, probably a great deal, from reading some of the topics (and following some of the suggestions) in this book. These essays, in varying degrees, contain fresh thoughts and original ideas.

Essays In Social Psychology written by George Herbert Mead and has been published by Transaction Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-01 with Social Science categories.

George H. Mead (1863-1931) is a central, founding figure of modern sociology, comparable to Karl Marx and Max Weber. Mead's early work, prior to his posthumous publications that appeared after 1932, is believed to be a series of articles contemporary scholarship defines as disconnected. A previously unknown, never published set of galleys for a book of essays by Mead, written between 1892 and 1910, unites these articles into a logical perspective. "Essays in Social Psychology, "Mead's "first" book, clearly locates him within a significantly different tradition and network than documented in his posthumous volumes. The discovery of this work is a major scholarly event. Instead of being abstract and unemotional, as some scholars argue, Mead's early scholarship focuses on the significance of emotions, instincts, and childhood as well as political issues underlying political problems in Chicago. During these early years, he was involved with the emerging Laboratory Schools at the University of Chicago, which was then the center of progressive education. These early topics, interpretations, and scholarly networks are dramatically different in these writings from those of Mead as a mature scholar. They demonstrate that he was clearly making a transition from psychology to social psychology at a time when the latter was in its infancy. Mary Jo Deegan, a world-renowned Meadian scholar has comprehensively edited this volume, footnoting now obscure references and authors. Her introduction explains how this previously lost manuscript affects contemporary Meadian scholarship and how it reflects the city and times in which he lived. Unlike the posthumous volumes assembled from lecture notes, "Essays in Social Psychology "is the only book actually written by Mead and challenges most current scholarship on him. The selections are highly readable, surprisingly timely yet historically significant. Psychologists, sociologists, and educators will find it immensely important.

The Common Mind written by Philip Pettit and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-04-18 with Philosophy categories.

What makes human beings intentional and thinking subjects? How does their intentionality and thought connect with their social nature and their communal experience? How do the answers to these questions shape the assumptions which it is legitimate to make in social explanation and political evaluation? These are the broad-ranging issues which Pettit addresses in this novel study. The Common Mind argues for an original way of marking off thinking subjects, in particular human beings, from other intentional systems, natural and artificial. It holds by the holistic view that human thought requires communal resources while denying that this social connection compromises the autonomy of individuals. And, in developing the significance of this view of social subjects--this holistic individualism--it outlines a novel framework for social and political theory. Within this framework, social theory is allowed to follow any of a number of paths: space is found for intentional interpretation and decision-theoretic reconstruction, for structural explanation and rational choice derivation. But political theory is treated less ecumenically. The framework raises serious questions about contractarian and atomistic modes of thought and it points the way to a republican rethinking of liberal commitments.

The Study of Lives reveals for the first time the extent of Henry A. Murray's considerable influence on the study of personality. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he has either trained or strongly influenced some of the world's leading psychologists, eighteen of whom have written fascinating essays for this book. The range of topics presented here is as diverse and highly original as Murray's own ideas about personality. Everyone concerned with the study of personality will find this book an excellent sampling of the best work being done in the field. "The study of lives" is a phrase Henry A. Murray has often used to describe his own work, and it suggests his central conviction that living beings must be studied as living wholes. Personality, he has repeatedly pointed out, is a dynamic process-a constantly changing configuration of thoughts, feelings, and actions occurring in a social environment and continuing throughout life. If small parts and short segments of human affairs have to be isolated for detailed scrutiny, they must still be understood as parts of a patterned organic system and as segments of a lifelong process. This has never meant for him that all research should take the form of collecting life histories, although his contributions along this line have been outstanding. It implies simply that isolating, fragmenting, and learning just a tiny bit about a lot of people tend to carry us away from what is most worth studying. The essays in this book are grouped under headings that represent some of Murray's strongest interests: His conception of personality as a dynamic process is reflected in Part I, which deals with continuities and changes in the course of life. His interest in devising procedures suitable for disclosing live feelings, fantasies, and adaptations and his insistence on the necessity for an adequate taxonomy of carefully discriminated, carefully defined variables are represented in the papers of Part II. His view that creativity is a central property of human nature has contributed to the reflections and researches that make up Part III. Finally, his concern with values--the great blind spot of traditional science but so obviously a momentous problem for contemporary lives and societies--has been taken up in several different ways by the authors of Part IV.

First published in 1979. The aim of this series of Tutorial Essays, of which the present book is the second volume, is to enable the specialist in one area to discover in as painless a way as possible what his colleagues in other parts of the field are up to: New discoveries, methods and theories in one speciality often have important implications for work in others. The essays are also intended to be intelligible and useful to graduate students and advanced undergraduates seeking an introduction to a topic. In this volume Bow Lett describes modern work on an old topic, delay learning in animals, and discusses its implications for theories of learning. Mark Georgeson expounds an important new approach to vision, the application of Fourier analysis: His chapter contains an exceptionally clear exposition of the ideas underlying this technique written for the reader with little mathematical knowledge. Dennis Holding provides a synthesis of the many different approaches to the problem of echoic memory, and Gregory Jones presents some new ideas on associative memory which make many previously puzzling results fall into place.
