Niederschlag und Biomasse(-produktion) sind zwei Schluesselgr��en im Naturhaushalt semiarider �kosysteme und unterliegen (hohen) raumzeitlichen Schwankungen. Vor dem Hintergrund von �Global Change� und dem hohen Bev�lkerungsdruck in Ostafrikas, wird es zukuenftig von fundamentaler wissenschaftlicher und �konomischer Bedeutung sein, beide Parameter mit einer hohen Genauigkeit quantitativ erfassen zu k�nnen. Durch die Kombination von Satellitenzeitreihen mit statistischen Modellen lassen sich die genannten Parameter bis in den regionalen Ma�stab und fl�chenhaft absch�tzen. Die hohe zeitliche Aufl�sung der Satellitendaten (METEOSAT und NOAA) erm�glicht erstmals Monatskarten von Kenia (April 1990) zu berechnen, ihre dreidimensionale Verteilung zu interpretieren und die klima�kologischen Wechselwirkungen fuer variable Zeitintervalle zu analysieren. Damit sind die methodischen Grundlagen geschaffen, um u.a. die Nahrungsmittelversorgung der autochthonen Bev�lkerung zu verbessern.
