The latest book from the bestselling author Kim Thittichai focuses on the range of ideas and techniques for layering your textiles. These layers can produce simple to extreme surfaces for stitch. Layering is a major feature of today’s textile art, whether to create relief, colour, texture or dimension. The author takes you through a number of key materials – papers, synthetic and natural fabric, translucent materials, wires, paints and sprays – that can be incorporated into layered textiles. Various techniques are combined with these materials, from using heat guns, soldering irons and lazer cutting to machine and hand stitch to give the reader endless ideas for their own creative work. As always, the author has provided exercises for the creative process and the techniques but combined them with the work of the best textile artists around the world today. It provides the ultimate guide to the subject of layered textiles for readers looking to experiment with their own textile art.

Experiments In Textile And Fibre Chemistry written by Christopher Earland and has been published by Butterworth-Heinemann this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Experiments in Textile and Fiber Chemistry focuses on selected experiments in the chemistry of fibrous polymers and ancillary materials designed primarily for undergraduate students in technical colleges, polytechnics, and universities. The book first reviews the determination of 'available' chlorine in sodium hypochlorite solution, hardness of water, and estimation of iron in water. The text also ponders on the determination of the saponification and iodine values of oils, use of the pH meter, and use of pH indicators and acid-base titrations. The publication examines the determination of the nitrogen content of organic substances by the Kjeldahl method; separation of amino acids by paper chromatography and paper electrophoresis; and thin layer chromatography. Identification of N-terminal amino acids by the 'Dansyl' method; supercontraction of wool; rendering wool resistant to acid dyeing; effect of breaking disulfide cross-links in wool; and the formation of lanthionine linkages in wool are discussed. The text is a valuable reference for textile and fiber experts interested in the chemistry of fibrous polymers and ancillary materials.

Textile Processes written by Georgi Borisov Damyanov and has been published by Momentum Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-05 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Textiles are everywhere in the modern world as natural, synthetic, and blended fibers, yarns, and fabrics. They might be woven or non-woven. We use them for cloths of all varieties from disposal wipes to bandages to blankets to clothing. We use them in the upholsteries, carpets, and curtains in our homes and in cars and aircraft. Textiles are now “smart.” They can be embedded with sensors that monitor our life functions, such as heart rate and breathing, and send signals to medical authorities about pending heart attacks. Giving the textiles different forms through cutting and sewing as well as combining different textile and non-textile materials, we can produce products with a wide range of applications. All of them, nevertheless, are produced by similar manufacturing processes. All of us as customers are looking for quality products at a level achievable only by the use of both up-front materials design and post-manufacturing inspection. This book is written for textile experts, for quality control experts, and for researchers and students at all academic levels interested in the control and optimization of textile processes. The book is organized into two parts. Part I is a review of the concepts and tools of mathematical statistics. Part II offers a review of the methods for the experimental design of various textile processes and the methods for deriving and optimization of mathematical models. The individual models are illustrated by numerical examples, which allow for easier comprehension and implementation of the methods in practice. Special attention is given to the use of Taguchi methods in setting up experimental design models.Highlights include: • a basic overview of the statistical basis for quality control in textile processes, in Part I. • coverage of correlation analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA), in Part I. • description of the technique for forecasting product properties during manufacture, in Part II. • reviews of the three most widely-used designs for derivation of second order mathematical models: the rotational central composite design, the orthogonal central composite design and the optimal design, in Part II.

The NESAT symposium has grown from the first meeting in 1981 which was attended by 23 scholars, to over 100 at the tenth meeting that took place in Copenhagen in 2008, with virtually all areas of Europe represented. The 50 papers from the conference presented here show the vibrance of the study of archaeological textiles today. Examples studied come from the Bronze Age, Neolithic, the Iron Age, Roman, Viking, the Middle Ages and post-Medieval, and from a wide range of countries including Norway, Czech Republic, Poland, Greece, Germany, Lithuania, Estonia and the Netherlands. Modern techniques of analysis and examination are also discussed.
