Este libro es el resultado de las clases que se han impartido durante más de 25 años en el curso de Física de Reactores I en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana para estudiantes del programa de estudios de Ingeniería en Energía. Es pionero en México en el estudio de fuentes alternas de energías nuclear y renovables. No obstante, por el tratamiento de los temas, es de utilidad para otras escuelas o facultades de ingeniería. El libro se concibió como material de apoyo para estudiantes no graduados y proporciona las bases, con una revisión de fundamentos de física nuclear, para la comprensión de conceptos claves de la física de reactores nucleares tales como la interacción de la radiación con la materia, factor de multiplicación, reactividad y teoría de difusión de neutrones. Conceptos cuyo dominio es esencial para todo estudiante interesado en la Ingeniería Nuclear. Con frecuencia los alumnos tienen serias dificultades para comprender los principios básicos de la física de reactores. Esta deficiencia es evidente durante el proceso de aprendizaje y en la solución de problemas en los que deben aplicar dichos principios. Para ello se presentan ejemplos durante el desarrollo de cada tema donde se ilustran los conceptos e ideas definidos y al final de cada capítulo se ha incluido una selección de preguntas y problemas propuestos para que el estudiante se entrene y mejore su habilidad en la solución de problemas. El material que se desarrolla en este libro se apoya en libros clásicos de la Ingeniería Nuclear.
