Jinnah written by Ian Bryant Wells and has been published by Seagull Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This book analyses the development of Jinnah ́s relationship with India ́s Muslims from his entry into politics until 1934. It shows that a dominant view of Jinnah - that he was an ambassador of Hindu Muslim unity in the 1920s who became a communalist in the 1940s - is far from the truth. The book argues that the "two Jinnahs" approach over-simplifies the trajectory of a complex and evolving political thinker and strategist. The primary changes in Jinnah ́s politics were the strategies he employed to achieve his goals rather than the goals themselves. Amongst the many aspects of Jinnah ́s political thought and career analysed here are his "elitism" and distance from mass politics, his relations with Gandhi, Motilal and Jawaharlal Nehru, Willingdon, Ramsay MacDonald and Irwin, his attitude to the Rowlatt Act, the Khilafat movement and non-cooperation, and his troubled and complex relations with other nationalist Muslim leaders.

The Charismatic Leader written by Sikandar Hayat and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This book provides a detailed and systematic analysis of the charismatic leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the leader of Indian Muslims during the crisis-ridden decade of 1937-47. Based on the concept of charisma formulated by Max Weber and developed by recent writers, the study concentrates on the 'personality-related' and 'situational' factors that led to the emergence of Jinnah as the charismatic leader of the Muslims and sustained him in that role until the creation of Pakistan. In explaining and explicating Jinnah's charisma, his early political career and the crises facing the Muslims of British India, both systemic and of leadership, have been examined at length. This has been followed by a critical appraisal of Jinnah's formula of Pakistan, his strategy for political mobilization of the Muslims under the banner of the All-India Muslim League, and his extraordinary skills and abilities in negotiating with the British and Congress leaders who were united in their opposition to Pakistan. Recognizing him as their charismatic leader, and moved by the Pakistan demand, the Muslim masses rallied behind him, with the result that at the creation of Pakistan in August 1947, his charisma was truly at its zenith. ‘Jha is the right scholar and economist to take readers through the development of the Indian economy. Readers will be in good hands.’ —Edmund Phelps, Columbia University, USA, and winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Economics ‘This is perhaps the best and most scholarly contribution to understanding the Indian Economy and Society. Its rich historical perspective and a profound understanding of how India has evolved into a major economic power set standards of scholarship and analytical rigour that will be hard to surpass". —Raghav Gaiha, University of Manchester, UK ‘Linking of economy and society is increasingly recognised as essential for addressing policy challenges by the current phase of globalisation. As such this study should be valuable not just for those studying India, but also for those interested in global developments.’ —Mukul Asher, National University of Singapore, Singapore ‘This book is a tour-de-force review of the fundamental topics on the Indian political economy and society that are relevant for any committed social scientist to be aware of.’ —Sumit K. Majumdar, University of Texas at Dallas, USA This two-volume work provides an account of how India has been meeting its myriad of economic, political and social challenges and how things are expected to evolve in the future. Despite enormous challenges at the time of independence, India chose to address them within a secular, liberal, democratic framework, which guaranteed several fundamental rights. Challenges included intense mass poverty and hunger, very poor literacy and educational abilities of the population, the task of uniting a country with scores of languages and ethnicities ruled by different entities for decades and persistent threats of external aggression, to name just a few. Over time, incomes and opportunities have expanded enormously and India has regained her self-confidence as a nation. In this first volume, Jha presents a long view of the performance of the Indian economy and discusses key aspects of India’s population, land and labor. In addition, the Indian Constitution and basic structure of governance are analysed within the context of major economic and political developments in independent India.

This book “Facets of Contemporary History”is a selection of research papers, presented in the International Conference on Contemporary History which was held on 30th and 31st January 2015. This conference was organized by the Department of History, Tourism and Travel Management, Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai. It gives us great pleasure to put together a selection of the papers for the public in the form of a book in the interest of research. Contemporary History refers to the history of the immediate past or that which can be expected to remain in living memory. While there are areas of history which have branched off from contemporary history such as social history and economic history this conference took a very broad look at contemporary events from not just a historical but also a social science perspective. This Book contains 6 Sections namely Political History, Socio-Cultural History, Gender, Economic History, Environment and Tourism. We would like to place on record the Management of the college for the moral and financial support extended in the conduct of the Conference and in the production of the book. Thanks are due to our respected Chairman of the Trust Board, Mr. V.M.Muralidharan for all his support and encouragement. Heartfelt thanks are due to Prof.Dr.Karu. Nagarajan Member Secretary, TAMIL NADU STATE COUNCIL FOR HIGHER EDUCATION for their generous financial Assistance towards the conduct of the Conference. We would be failing in our duty if we do not thank the faculty of the Department of History, Tourism and Travel Management for their support and encouragement in the conduct of the Conference.
