This is the second updated and extended edition of the successful book on Feynman-Kac theory. It offers a state-of-the-art mathematical account of functional integration methods in the context of self-adjoint operators and semigroups using the concepts and tools of modern stochastic analysis. In the second volume, these ideas are applied principally to a rigorous treatment of some fundamental models of quantum field theory.

Since long over the decades there has been a large transversal community of mathematicians grappling with the sophisticated challenges of the rigorous modelling and the spectral and scattering analysis of quantum systems of particles subject to an interaction so much localised to be considered with zero range. Such a community is experiencing fruitful and inspiring exchanges with experimental and theoretical physicists. This volume reflects such spirit, with a diverse range of original contributions by experts, presenting an up-to-date collection of most relevant results and challenging open problems. It has been conceived with the deliberate two-fold purpose of serving as an updated reference for recent results, mathematical tools, and the vast related literature on the one hand, and as a bridge towards several key open problems that will surely form the forthcoming research agenda in this field.

Dedicated to Tosio Kato’s 100th birthday, this book contains research and survey papers on a broad spectrum of methods, theories, and problems in mathematics and mathematical physics. Survey papers and in-depth technical papers emphasize linear and nonlinear analysis, operator theory, partial differential equations, and functional analysis including nonlinear evolution equations, the Korteweg–de Vries equation, the Navier–Stokes equation, and perturbation theory of linear operators. The Kato inequality, the Kato type matrix limit theorem, the Howland–Kato commutator problem, the Kato-class of potentials, and the Trotter–Kato product formulae are discussed and analyzed. Graduate students, research mathematicians, and applied scientists will find that this book provides comprehensive insight into the significance of Tosio Kato’s impact to research in analysis and operator theory.

Ground States Of Quantum Field Models written by Fumio Hiroshima and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-16 with Science categories.

This book provides self-contained proofs of the existence of ground states of several interaction models in quantum field theory. Interaction models discussed here include the spin-boson model, the Nelson model with and without an ultraviolet cutoff, and the Pauli–Fierz model with and without dipole approximation in non-relativistic quantum electrodynamics. These models describe interactions between bose fields and quantum mechanical matters.A ground state is defined as the eigenvector associated with the bottom of the spectrum of a self-adjoint operator describing the Hamiltonian of a model. The bottom of the spectrum is however embedded in the continuum and then it is non-trivial to show the existence of ground states in non-perturbative ways. We show the existence of the ground state of the Pauli–Fierz mode, the Nelson model, and the spin-boson model, and several kinds of proofs of the existence of ground states are explicitly provided. Key ingredients are compact sets and compact operators in Hilbert spaces. For the Nelson model with an ultraviolet cutoff and the Pauli–Fierz model with dipole approximation we show not only the existence of ground states but also enhanced binding. The enhanced binding means that a system for zero-coupling has no ground state but it has a ground state after turning on an interaction. The book will be of interest to graduate students of mathematics as well as to students of the natural sciences who want to learn quantum field theory from a mathematical point of view. It begins with abstract compactness arguments in Hilbert spaces and definitions of fundamental facts of quantum field theory: boson Fock spaces, creation operators, annihilation operators, and second quantization. This book quickly takes the reader to a level where a wider-than-usual range of quantum field theory can be appreciated, and self-contained proofs of the existence of ground states and enhanced binding are presented.

Wavelets And Renormalization written by Guy Battle and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-03-03 with Mathematics categories.

WAVELETS AND RENORMALIZATION describes the role played by wavelets in Euclidean field theory and classical statistical mechanics. The author begins with a stream-lined introduction to quantum field theory from a rather basic point of view. Functional integrals for imaginary-time-ordered expectations are introduced early and naturally, while the connection with the statistical mechanics of classical spin systems is introduced in a later chapter.A vastly simplified (wavelet) version of the celebrated Glimm-Jaffe construction of the Φ43 quantum field theory is presented. It is due to Battle and Federbush, and it bases an inductively defined cluster expansion on a wavelet decomposition of the Euclidean quantum field. The presentation is reserved for the last chapter, while the more basic aspects of cluster expansions are reviewed in the chapter on classical spin systems.Wavelets themselves are studied from two different points of view arising from two disciplines. The mathematical point of view covers the basic properties of wavelets and methods for constructing well-known wavelets such as Meyer wavelets, Daubechies wavelets, etc. The physical point of view covers the renormalization group formalism, where there is a close connection between wavelets and Gaussian fixed points. The book is heavily mathematical, but avoids the theorem-proof-theorem-proof format in the interests of preserving the flow of the discussion — i.e., it is written in the style of an old-fashioned theoretical physics book, but the major claims are rigorously proven. The minor themes of the book are reflection positivity, the combinatorics of cluster expansions, and the issue of phase transitions — themes which have nothing to do with wavelets, but which provide necessary cultural background for the physical context.

The present volume collects lecture notes from the session of the International School of Mathematical Physics 'Ettore Majorana' on Renormalization Theory that took place in Erice (Sicily), August 17 to August 31, 1975. The School was a NATO Advanced Study Institute sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Public Education, the Italian Minis try of Scientific and Technological Research, and the Regional Sicilian Government. Renormalization theory has, by now, acquired forty years of history. The present volume assumes a general acquaintance with the elementary facts of the subject as they might appear in an introductory course in quantum field theory. For more recent significant developments it provides a systematic intro duction as well as a detailed discussion of the existing state of knowledge. In particular analytic and dimensional renorma lization, normal product technique, and the Bogoliubov-Shirkov Epstein-Glaser method are treated, with applications to physically important gauge theories. All the preceding deals with perturbative renormalization theory. In recent years there has been an interesting development of non-perturbative renormalization theory in models in space-times of two and three dimensions, with the use of the methods of constructive field theory. Despite the simplicity of these models, the results are of significance because they are exact and answer a number of questions of principle. There are parts of renormalization theory which are not well understood, for instance the renormalization theory of non-renormalizable interactions.

This proceedings volume contains selected talks and poster presentations from the 9th International Conference on Path Integrals — New Trends and Perspectives, which took place at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden, Germany, during the period September 23-28, 2007. Continuing the well-developed tradition of the conference series, the present status of both the different techniques of path integral calculations and their diverse applications to many fields of physics and chemistry is reviewed. This is reflected in the main topics in this volume, which range from more traditional fields such as general quantum physics and quantum or statistical field theory through technical aspects like Monte Carlo simulations to more modern applications in the realm of quantum gravity and astrophysics, condensed matter physics with topical subjects such as Bose-Einstein condensation or quantum wires, biophysics and econophysics. All articles are successfully tied together by the common method of path integration; as a result, special methodological advancements in one topic could be transferred to other topics.
