Aquestes pàgines volen ser una primera aproximació o una introducció a la filosofia medieval que exposi sumàriament i amb un llenguatge entenedor i clar, però alhora rigorós i formal, les grans línies del pensament medieval i els seus temes i autors més significatius. Salvi Turró reprèn en aquest llibre un debat tan candent com el de la postmodernitat i la Modernitat, a partir dels elements històrics i conceptuals que determinen l’evolució filosòfica del segle XVII al XIX. El volum revisa el sentit de la filosofia moderna i de la noció mateixa de «modernitat» reconstruint tant el sentit general com el desplegament i la periodització de la Modernitat com a «època filosòfica» i recuperant els intents de reconstruir «l’ordre del món» en el pensament clàssic alemany. Preguntar-se pel sentit de la Modernitat des d’aquesta perspectiva historiogràfica pot obrir un nou horitzó per situar les línies de filiació, continuïtat i ruptura dels moderns, i entre ells i nosaltres, i esdevenir un instrument per aclarir i avaluar la situació del pensament actual.
