Professor Xihua Cao (1920-2005) was a leading scholar at East China Normal University (ECNU) and a famous algebraist in China. His contribution to the Chinese academic circle is particularly the formation of a world-renowned 'ECNU School' in algebra, covering research areas include algebraic groups, quantum groups, algebraic geometry, Lie algebra, algebraic number theory, representation theory and other hot fields. In January 2020, in order to commemorate Professor Xihua Cao's centenary birthday, East China Normal University held a three-day academic conference. Scholars at home and abroad gave dedications or delivered lectures in the conference. This volume originates from the memorial conference, collecting the dedications of scholars, reminiscences of family members, and 16 academic articles written based on the lectures in the conference, covering a wide range of research hot topics in algebra. The book shows not only scholars' respect and memory for Professor Xihua Cao, but also the research achievements of Chinese scholars at home and abroad.

Geography Of Technology Transfer In China A Glocal Network Approach written by Chengliang Liu and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-06 with Business & Economics categories.
The majority of technology transfer studies done today are derived from Economics and Management Sciences, and there are relatively few studies that examine the geographical concerns of technology transfer from a glocal perspective. Geography of Technology Transfer in China fills the gap by aiming to discover the geographical character of technology transfer and its determinants from the interaction in both global and local scales, which involves the study of innovation geography, economic geography, urban economics, and regional economics. The chapters included in this book present a clear structure of a series of studies performed both theoretically and empirically. The research begins by constructing an analytic framework for urban technology transfer study and abstracts the study target from technological innovation subjects to cities, along with establishing the structure system, the dimension system, and the effect system of urban technology transfer research. This then develops an initial conceptual framework for urban technology transfer research. In addition, it analyses the hierarchy of China's urban technology innovation system and the segmentation of the technology transfer market, from the perspective of technology transfer. All in all, the book aspires to depict the spatial evolution of China's technological innovation system and technology transfer system from a city size perspective, thereby realising the spatial scale of technology transfer study.

On Their Own Terms written by Benjamin A. Elman and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-07-01 with History categories.
In On Their Own Terms, Benjamin A. Elman offers a much-needed synthesis of early Chinese science during the Jesuit period (1600-1800) and the modern sciences as they evolved in China under Protestant influence (1840s-1900). By 1600 Europe was ahead of Asia in producing basic machines, such as clocks, levers, and pulleys, that would be necessary for the mechanization of agriculture and industry. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Elman shows, Europeans still sought from the Chinese their secrets of producing silk, fine textiles, and porcelain, as well as large-scale tea cultivation. Chinese literati borrowed in turn new algebraic notations of Hindu-Arabic origin, Tychonic cosmology, Euclidian geometry, and various computational advances. Since the middle of the nineteenth century, imperial reformers, early Republicans, Guomindang party cadres, and Chinese Communists have all prioritized science and technology. In this book, Elman gives a nuanced account of the ways in which native Chinese science evolved over four centuries, under the influence of both Jesuit and Protestant missionaries. In the end, he argues, the Chinese produced modern science on their own terms.

Opinion Analysis For Online Reviews written by Yuming Lin and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-02 with Computers categories.
This book provides a comprehensive introduction on opinion analysis for online reviews. It offers the newest research on opinion mining, including theories, algorithms and datasets. A new feature presentation method is highlighted for sentiment classification. Then, a three-phase framework for sentiment classification is proposed, where a set of sentiment classifiers are selected automatically to make predictions. Such predictions are integrated via ensemble learning. Finally, to solve the problem of combination explosion encountered, a greedy algorithm is devised to select the base classifiers.

Script Effects As The Hidden Drive Of The Mind Cognition And Culture written by Hye K. Pae and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-14 with Education categories.
This open access volume reveals the hidden power of the script we read in and how it shapes and drives our minds, ways of thinking, and cultures. Expanding on the Linguistic Relativity Hypothesis (i.e., the idea that language affects the way we think), this volume proposes the “Script Relativity Hypothesis” (i.e., the idea that the script in which we read affects the way we think) by offering a unique perspective on the effect of script (alphabets, morphosyllabaries, or multi-scripts) on our attention, perception, and problem-solving. Once we become literate, fundamental changes occur in our brain circuitry to accommodate the new demand for resources. The powerful effects of literacy have been demonstrated by research on literate versus illiterate individuals, as well as cross-scriptal transfer, indicating that literate brain networks function differently, depending on the script being read. This book identifies the locus of differences between the Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans, and between the East and the West, as the neural underpinnings of literacy. To support the “Script Relativity Hypothesis”, it reviews a vast corpus of empirical studies, including anthropological accounts of human civilization, social psychology, cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, applied linguistics, second language studies, and cross-cultural communication. It also discusses the impact of reading from screens in the digital age, as well as the impact of bi-script or multi-script use, which is a growing trend around the globe. As a result, our minds, ways of thinking, and cultures are now growing closer together, not farther apart.

Brain Storm Optimization Algorithms written by Shi Cheng and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-03 with Computers categories.
Brain Storm Optimization (BSO) algorithms are a new kind of swarm intelligence method, which is based on the collective behavior of human beings, i.e., on the brainstorming process. Since the introduction of BSO algorithms in 2011, many studies on them have been conducted. They not only offer an optimization method, but could also be viewed as a framework of optimization techniques. The process employed in the algorithms could be simplified as a framework with two basic operations: the converging operation and the diverging operation. A “good enough” optimum could be obtained through recursive solution divergence and convergence. The resulting optimization algorithm would naturally have the capability of both convergence and divergence. This book is primarily intended for researchers, engineers, and graduate students with an interest in BSO algorithms and their applications. The chapters cover various aspects of BSO algorithms, and collectively provide broad insights into what these algorithms have to offer. The book is ideally suited as a graduate-level textbook, whereby students may be tasked with the study of the rich variants of BSO algorithms that involves a hands-on implementation to demonstrate the utility and applicability of BSO algorithms in solving optimization problems.
