Ce numéro a pour objectif de rendre visibles les difficultés scolaires d’une partie des jeunes inscrits en collèges et lycées, d’en comprendre les raisons diverses et de montrer différents types d’interventions des professionnels auprès de ce public dans les établissements scolaires. Les acteurs de la lutte contre le décrochage scolaire, se trouvent au plus près des élèves, dans les établissements scolaires. Ils les côtoient quotidiennement, savent repérer les symptômes du risque de décrochage par leur maîtrise de ses ressorts. Les enseignants se trouvent en première ligne pour repérer l’élève qui progressivement s’éloigne de la classe et de ce qu’il s’y fait. Une attitude tapageuse, ou à l’opposé, une présence transparente sont des signes majeurs. Il est d’autres acteurs dont les missions participent à la lutte contre le décrochage scolaire et l’absentéisme, parmi lesquels se trouvent les assistants sociaux scolaires. A la croisée des chemins entre l’élève, sa famille, et l’institution ils tissent les fils pour que chacun trouve sa place, s’investisse dans ses missions dans un objectif commun partagé. La fonction de CPE Conseiller Principal d’Éducation consiste aussi à repérer les absences et autres signes de difficultés des élèves. Il travaille directement avec les élèves concernés et collabore avec les différents professionnels réunis dans l’établissement pour comprendre les situations et intervenir le plus tôt possible et le plus efficacement. Travail social individualisé, de groupe, partenariats, connaissance des besoins des jeunes, les auteurs s’appliquent à montrer les points d’appui mobilisables pour accompagner ces jeunes.
