The Foundations of Genetics describes the historical development of genetics with emphasis on the contributions to advancing genetical knowledge and the various applications of genetics. The book reviews the work of Gregor Mendel, his Law of Segregation, and of Ernst Haeckel who suggested that the nucleus is that part of the cell that is responsible for heredity. The text also describes the studies of W. Johannsen on "pure lines," and his introduction of the terms gene, genotype, and phenotype. The book explains the theory of the gene and the notion that hereditary particles are borne by the chromosomes (Sutton-Boveri hypothesis). Of the constituent parts of the nucleus only the chromatin material divides at mitosis and segregates during maturation. Following studies confirm that the chromatin material, present in the form of chromosomes with a constant and characteristic number and appearance for each species, is indeed the hereditary material. The book describes how Muller in 1927, showed that high precision energy radiation is the external cause to mutation in the gene itself if one allele can mutate without affecting its partner. The superstructure of genetics built upon the foundations of Mendelism has many applications including cytogenetics, polyploidy, human genetics, eugenics, plant breeding, radiation genetics, and the evolution theory. The book can be useful to academicians and investigators in the fields of genetics such as biochemical, biometrical, microbial, and pharmacogenetics. Students in agriculture, anthropology, botany, medicine, sociology, veterinary medicine, and zoology should add this text to their list of primary reading materials.

Foundations Of Mathematical Genetics written by Anthony William Fairbank Edwards and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-01-13 with Science categories.
In this 2000 second edition of the classic work Foundations of Mathematical Genetics a definitive account is given of the basic models of population genetics, together with the historical origins of developments since 1908. Existing texts in mathematical population genetics have revealed the need for a careful study of the foundations of the field which have tended to be neglected in the past. This book satisfies that need, treating the simple deterministic models for random-mating diploid populations in depth, though without sacrificing clarity of expression. In the new edition, coverage has been extended with the provision of an extra chapter on the Fundamental Theorem of Natural Selection. This book is written for those interested in the mathematical aspects of genetics, ecology and biology. Both students of mathematical genetics and historians of the subject will find it a definitive statement of the origins of modern mathematical population genetics.

Foundations Of Comparative Genomics written by Arcady R. Mushegian and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-07-20 with Science categories.
This book provides an overview of computational analysis of genes and genomes, and of some most notable findings that come out of this work. Foundations of Comparative Genomics presents a historical perspective, beginning with early analysis of individual gene sequences, to present day comparison of gene repertoires encoded by completely sequenced genomes. The author discusses the underlying scientific principles of comparative genomics, argues that completion of many genome sequences started a new era in biology, and provides a personal view on several state-of-the-art issues, such as systems biology and whole-genome phylogenetic reconstructions. This book is an essential reference for researchers and students in computational biology, evolutionary biology, and genetics. - Presents an historic overview of genome biology and its achievements - Includes topics not covered in other books such as minimal and ancestral genomes - Discusses the evolutionary resilience of protein-coding genes and frequent functional convergence at the molecular level - Critically reviews horizontal gene transfer and other contentious issues - Covers comparative virology as a somewhat overlooked foundation of modern genome science

Foundations Of Developmental Psychology written by Richard C. LaBarba and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-25 with Psychology categories.
Foundations of Developmental Psychology is designed for the student seeking a comprehensive introduction to developmental psychology as a developmental science. The intent is to introduce the field in a manner comparable to the introductory courses that college students take in biology, chemistry, or physics. The emphasis is on the empirical and theoretical foundations of fundamental human development. The book attempts to trace the origins and processes of various developmental events. Developmental phenomena are presented by topics rather than by chronological, age-related patterns of development. This arrangement of the subject matter provides for more efficient study, integration, and synthesis of the material, along with a more organized view of development. Key topics discussed include the genetic foundations of development; prenatal factors in development; the biological notion of maturation and its significance for development; motor and perceptual development; and cognitive, intellectual, language, emotional, personality, and social development. Although this text is written for undergraduate students in psychology, it can be understood by students in any discipline who have a grasp of introductory psychology and biology.
