The story of the world's most formidable rugby team. The record of the All Blacks in world rugby is unmatched. From the famous pre match challenge of the haka to the scintillating brand of rugby they play, the team draws thousands around the world to stadiums and TVs to watch them play. Over the years, some of the greatest players to ever pick up a rugby ball have worn the iconic black jersey – names like Lomu, Meads, Carter and Barrett. From the first ever tours to the modern World Cups, the All Blacks embody a legacy of excellence that strikes fear into the heart of their opponents. 'Son, you've got to be prepared to piss blood to wear this jersey.' - All Black flanker Mark Shaw to debutant Mike Brewer, 1986. The 1924/5 All Black side won an astonishing 31 games in a row on their tour to the United Kingdom, France and North America. When they arrived back in New Zealand they were dubbed 'The Invincibles'.

KHAKI ALL BLACKS is a detailed account of the 1945-46 Kiwis' tour at the end of the Second World War. The tour was the brainchild of Major-General Bernard Freyberg, when the NZ Expeditionary Force was stationed in Cairo in 1940, and subsequently came under the able direction of the 'Colonel' - Colonel Allan Andrews. At the end of hostilities the Kiwis undertook an arduous tour of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, then on to France and Germany before returning home to another five games against New Zealand provincial sides before they were finally reunited with their families. In total they won 32 of the 38 games they played. The style of rugby was fast, open and highly entertaining and, in the immediate post-war era when people were starved of entertainment of any sort, was received with enthusiasm and accolades wherever they played. Once back in New Zealand, many of the team went on to become All Blacks, coaches and selectors, including great names such as Bob Scott, Fred Allen and Charlie Saxton. The book includes forewords by Bob Scott and Major General Jerry Matapare, Chief of Army, as well as comprehensive tour statistics and details on each of the players.

Although New Zealand exists as a small (pop. 4.3 million), peripheral nation in the global economy, it offers a unique site through which to examine the complex, but uneven, interplay between global forces and long-standing national traditions and cultural identities. This book examines the profound impact of globalization on the national sport of rugby and New Zealand's iconic team, the All Blacks. Since 1995, the national sport of rugby has undergone significant change, most notably due to the New Zealand Rugby Union's lucrative and ongoing corporate partnerships with Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and global sportswear giant Adidas. The authors explore these significant developments and pressures alongside the resulting tensions and contradictions that have emerged as the All Blacks, and other aspects of national heritage and indigenous identity, have been steadily incorporated into a global promotional culture. Following recent research in cultural studies, they highlight the intensive, but contested, commodification of the All Blacks to illuminate the ongoing transformation of rugby in New Zealand by corporate imperatives and the imaginations of marketers, most notably through the production of a complex discourse of corporate nationalism within Adidas's evolving local and global advertising campaigns.

He features in the International Rugby Board Hall of Fame, the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, and the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame. He is Sir Wilson Whineray, one of New Zealand's favourite sons, a legendary achiever in both rugby and business. this is the man who had all of Cardiff Arms Park standing, singing 'For He's a Jolly Good Fellow' at the conclusion of the epic All Black tour of 1963-1964. He was a gifted, natural leader who, following his celebrated rugby career, became an iconic business leader, chairing the board of Carter Holt Harvey for 10 years. His amazing story has never before been told.Reluctant to be seen to be blowing his own trumpet, over the years Sir Wilson has turned down countless offers to have his life story published, but was finally coaxed out of his reticence by Bob Howitt, one of the country's most highly respected rugby writers and biographers. Bob has extracted myriad enthralling stories from Sir Wilson's rugby and business colleagues and the people closest to him, to produce a work of magical quality without which no rugby library will be complete.
