This version comes with pictures in black and white. There is a version with pictures in full color, contact the author on how to obtain a copy at http: //meadowsmountain.website My book tells the story of how we met (Sandy living in Washington State and me in Belgium, 5,000 miles away), details experiences we had during our first visits back and forth until she moved in with me in Antwerp, our move to Grimbergen near Brussels, where we lived for almost thirteen years, and our final move back to the USA. In addition, the story takes readers to a number of European cities, particularly Belgium's main Flemish cities (Brussels, Bruges, and Antwerp) and Paris, France. Many of these memories relate to our favorite local places and friends, spiced up with amusing anecdotes. It all started with some postings on Facebook, after Sandy passed away, and grew into full stories, inspired by the reactions of my readers. A few of their comments: I get lost in your stories! It's like reading a good book, and I hate it when it ends!! (Cindy) They take me away to the location and let me actually experience the event. (Mary Jane) These stories are the kind most women can only dream of let alone living it! (Sharon) You make me feel I was sitting right there when it happened. (Barbara) You are a born story teller Fred, totally amazing. (Susan) Love your stories Fred. It's like we're there with you! Thank you! (Kathy) I can't really express how profoundly I love these stories. (Brad) Amazing! Every time you tell a story, it's like I am in it. (Kristel) I love reading your stories and can picture her through them. (Amy) Wow! I love hearing about all this!!! You write wonderfully! (Julie) I enjoy your stories .. They bring a smile to my face and add warmth to my heart. (Leslie) Fred, thank you for posting these memories. I can picture all of this. (Debbie) I love reading your stories Fred. They always put a smile on my face. (Amanda) I keep telling Fred he should write a book. It would be amazing. (Laurie) From my editor's critique letter: I think you've written a wonderful story. It beautifully illustrates the deep love you and Sandy had together, and it's a fine tribute to her. One of the strengths of your book is your unique "voice" and perspective on life and on your relationship with her. It's also just plain fun to read, from the interesting descriptions of various places in Europe and America to the funny anecdotes.

Straight Flush written by Ben Mezrich and has been published by Harper Collins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-28 with Games & Activities categories.

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Accidental Billionaires and Bringing Down the House—the sources for the film The Social Network and 21—comes the larger-than-life rags-to-riches tale of a group of University of Montana frat brothers who turned a weekly poker game in the basement of a local dive bar into AbsolutePoker.com, one of the largest online companies in the world. Based on extensive insider interviews and participation, Straight Flush tells of the company’s initial operations in the exotic jungle paradise of Costa Rica—where its founders embraced an outrageous lifestyle of girls, parties, and money—and of the gray area of U.S. and international law in which they created an industry. Soon, the U.S. Department of Justice was gunning for them… Should they fold—or double down and ride their hot hand? Impossible to put down, Straight Flush is an exclusive, never-before-seen look behind the headlines of one of the wildest business stories of the past decade.

Seven Games A Human History written by Oliver Roeder and has been published by W. W. Norton & Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-25 with History categories.

A group biography of seven enduring and beloved games, and the story of why—and how—we play them. Checkers, backgammon, chess, and Go. Poker, Scrabble, and bridge. These seven games, ancient and modern, fascinate millions of people worldwide. In Seven Games, Oliver Roeder charts their origins and historical importance, the delightful arcana of their rules, and the ways their design makes them pleasurable. Roeder introduces thrilling competitors, such as evangelical minister Marion Tinsley, who across forty years lost only three games of checkers; Shusai, the Master, the last Go champion of imperial Japan, defending tradition against “modern rationalism”; and an IBM engineer who created a backgammon program so capable at self-learning that NASA used it on the space shuttle. He delves into the history and lore of each game: backgammon boards in ancient Egypt, the Indian origins of chess, how certain shells from a particular beach in Japan make the finest white Go stones. Beyond the cultural and personal stories, Roeder explores why games, seemingly trivial pastimes, speak so deeply to the human soul. He introduces an early philosopher of games, the aptly named Bernard Suits, and visits an Oxford cosmologist who has perfected a computer that can effectively play bridge, a game as complicated as human language itself. Throughout, Roeder tells the compelling story of how humans, pursuing scientific glory and competitive advantage, have invented AI programs better than any human player, and what that means for the games—and for us. Funny, fascinating, and profound, Seven Games is a story of obsession, psychology, history, and how play makes us human.

Thinking In Bets written by Annie Duke and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-07 with Business & Economics categories.

A Wall Street Journal bestseller, now in paperback. Poker champion turned decision strategist Annie Duke teaches you how to get comfortable with uncertainty and make better decisions. Even the best decision doesn't yield the best outcome every time. There's always an element of luck that you can't control, and there's always information hidden from view. So the key to long-term success (and avoiding worrying yourself to death) is to think in bets: How sure am I? What are the possible ways things could turn out? What decision has the highest odds of success? Did I land in the unlucky 10% on the strategy that works 90% of the time? Or is my success attributable to dumb luck rather than great decision making? Annie Duke, a former World Series of Poker champion turned consultant, draws on examples from business, sports, politics, and (of course) poker to share tools anyone can use to embrace uncertainty and make better decisions. For most people, it's difficult to say "I'm not sure" in a world that values and, even, rewards the appearance of certainty. But professional poker players are comfortable with the fact that great decisions don't always lead to great outcomes, and bad decisions don't always lead to bad outcomes. By shifting your thinking from a need for certainty to a goal of accurately assessing what you know and what you don't, you'll be less vulnerable to reactive emotions, knee-jerk biases, and destructive habits in your decision making. You'll become more confident, calm, compassionate, and successful in the long run.

Gambling With The Myth Of The American Dream written by Aaron M. Duncan and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-02 with Sports & Recreation categories.

This book explores the rise and increased acceptance of gambling in America, particularly the growth of the game of poker, as a means for examining changes to the American Dream and the risk society. Poker both critiques and reinterprets the myth of the American Dream, putting greater emphasis on the importance of luck and risk management while deemphasizing the importance of honesty and hard work. Duncan discusses the history of gambling in America, changes to the rhetoric surrounding gambling, the depiction of poker in the Wild West as portrayed in film, its recent rise in popularity on television, its current place in post-modern America on the internet, and future implications.
