Se describe la creación y evolución del Archivo Universitario, como centro de conservación de documentos, especialmente en la sede de Alcalá de Henares, desde el siglo xvi al xix, y después hasta la ubicación definitiva de sus fondos documentales en el Archivo Histórico Nacional, desde finales del siglo xix. Se hace, también, un estudio de la documentación, con las series documentales que reflejan la organización institucional de la universidad, la actividad académica y otras actividades propias. Y, por último, se realiza una breve aproximación a la documentación que se conserva en otros archivos de diferentes instituciones. [en] This article analyses the basic documentary sources of several archive holdings for study of the historical university that had its seat in Alcalá de Henares. In it we describe the creation and development of the University Archives as a centre for the preservation of documents, especially at Alcalá de Henares, from the 16th to the 19th c., and later until the definitive location of its documentary sources in the National Historic Archives at the end of the 19th c. A study is also made of the documentation with the documentary series that reflects the institutional organization of the university, its academic activity and other typical activities. Finally, we briefly approach the documents preserved in other archives of different institutions.
