The point of the technique is to describe the asymptotic behavior of families of minimum problems. This textbook was developed from a lectures series for doctoral students in applied functional analysis to describe all the main features of the convergence to an audience primarily interested in applications but not intending to enter the specialty. Local Minimization Variational Evolution And Convergence written by Andrea Braides and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-08 with Mathematics categories.

This book addresses new questions related to the asymptotic description of converging energies from the standpoint of local minimization and variational evolution. It explores the links between Gamma-limits, quasistatic evolution, gradient flows and stable points, raising new questions and proposing new techniques. These include the definition of effective energies that maintain the pattern of local minima, the introduction of notions of convergence of energies compatible with stable points, the computation of homogenized motions at critical time-scales through the definition of minimizing movement along a sequence of energies, the use of scaled energies to study long-term behavior or backward motion for variational evolutions. The notions explored in the book are linked to existing findings for gradient flows, energetic solutions and local minimizers, for which some generalizations are also proposed.

This proceedings volume contains papers on the main topics reflecting the scientific programme of the symposium: hierarchical, refined mathematical and technical models of shells, plates, and beams; relation of 2D and 1D models to 3D linear, non-linear and physical models; junction problems. In particular, peculiarities of cusped shells, plates, and beams are emphasized and special attention is paid to junction, multibody and fluid-elastic shell (plate, beam) interaction problems and their applications. The contributions are theoretical, practical, and numerical in character. This volume is dedicated to Ilia Vekua on the centenary of his birth.

Commutability Of Gamma Limits In Problems With Multiple Scales written by Martin Jesenko and has been published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Mathematics categories.

In the calculus of variations, the goal is to explore extrema of a given integral functional. From origins of the problem, it might be expected that the functional can be adequately simplified by neglecting some small quantities. A way to rigorously justify such an approximation is the Γ-convergence that ensures convergence of corresponding (global) extrema. The main motivation of this work is to investigate properties of doubly indexed integral functionals that Γ-converge for one index fixed. In other words, for two possible approximations we would like to determine whether we may perform them consecutively and if they commute. Our examples are taken from material science with homogenization being one of these two processes. In the first part we are considering a setting related to the elastic regime. However, our assumptions are fairly general and allow for applications in different areas. The second part is devoted to problems in the Hencky plasticity. They are considerably different due to special growth properties of the density.

Linear And Nonlinear Functional Analysis With Applications Second Edition written by Philippe G. Ciarlet and has been published by SIAM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-04-23 with Mathematics categories.

This new, considerably expanded edition covers the fundamentals of linear and nonlinear functional analysis, including distribution theory, harmonic analysis, differential geometry, calculus of variations, and degree theory. Numerous applications are included, especially to linear and nonlinear partial differential equations and to numerical analysis. All the basic theorems are provided with complete and detailed proofs. The author has added more than 450 pages of new material; added more than 210 problems; the solutions to all of the problems will be made available on an accompanying website; added two entirely new chapters, one on locally convex spaces and distribution theory and the other on the Fourier transform and Calderón–Zygmund singular integral operators; and enlarged and split the chapter on the “great theorems” of nonlinear functional analysis into two chapters, one on the calculus of variations and the other on Brouwer’s theorem, Brouwer’s degree, and Leray–Schauder’s degree. Ideal for both teaching and self-study, Linear and Nonlinear Functional Analysis with Applications, Second Edition is intended for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics, university professors, and researchers. It is also an ideal basis for several courses on linear or nonlinear functional analysis.

The Complete Works Of Gabrio Piola Volume Ii written by Francesco dell'Isola and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-06 with Science categories.

This book presents the second volume of Piola’s original Italian text together with the English-language translation and comments, showing convincingly that Gabrio Piola’s work must still be regarded as a modern theory. Gabrio Piola’s work has had an enormous impact on the development of applied mathematics and continuum mechanics. As such, a committee of scientific experts took it upon themselves to translate his complete works. In a second step, they commented on Piola’s work and compared it to modern theories in mechanics in order to stress Piola’s impact on modern science and prove and confirm that he achieved significant milestones in applied mathematics.
