Von dem neuen Format des Synodalen Wegs erhoffen sich die Initiatoren "mehr Freiheit" und eine konzentrierte Auseinandersetzung mit aktuellen Herausforderungen. Im Mittelpunkt der Beratungen stehen der Umgang mit Macht in der Kirche, die Rolle der Frauen, die kirchliche Sexualmoral und die Rolle des Priesters. Nachdem die bisher durchgeführten Vollversammlungen auf ein breites Interesse gestoßen sind, sollen im vorliegenden Band Chancen, Möglichkeiten und Grenzen des Synodalen Wegs ausgelotet und damit auch Impulse für die weiteren Beratungen gegeben werden.

Schon lange vor dem Zeitalter der Nationalismen im 19. Jahrhundert, trotz der Verfolgungen, Unterdrückungen und des Holocaust (Porajmos) im 20. Jahrhundert, repräsentieren Roma von Grenzüberschreitungen geprägte Kulturen, die immer wieder auch in der Literatur, in der bildenden Kunst und im Film dargestellt wurden. Besonders im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert kommen Eigenrepräsentationen selbst vermehrt zur textuellen und medialen Darstellung. Der Band setzt sich zum Ziel, den vielfältigen Facetten der Darstellung der Roma ("Tsiganes", "Bohémiens", "Sinté", "Manouches", "Yéniches", "Gitans' etc.) nachzugehen, deren Lebensweise sich geschichtlich durch grenzüberschreitende Bewegung und Grenzbeziehungen ausgezeichnet hat. Somit strebt sie an, räumliche Konzeptionen zu untersuchen. Diese können intermedial gestaltet sein und auch verschiedene literarische Genres überschreiten. An der Grenzgängerfigur kann manifest werden, wo Beziehungsgrenzen gezogen werden, in welches Verhältnis Selbst und Anderer/s zueinander gesetzt werden und inwieweit Kulturkontakt stattfindet, gelingt und misslingt. Besonderes Interesse gilt dabei der Figur der Bohémienne / Romnia / Sintezza sowie der Rolle von Schriftlichkeit und Mündlichkeit, insbesondere was die Performanz in der literarischen oder medialen Inszenierung betrifft. To assert that a 'clash of civilizations' follows inexorably from the different religious convictions at the foundations of Western Judeo-Christian and Arabic-Islamic cultures means to deny that a common political rationality can articulate genuinely universal, albeit culturally situated values. The eleven contributions to the present volume take up this controversy by challenging its premise that the heritage of classical Greek thought is exclusively part of Western political identity. By exploring the tradition of Platonism informing both Arabic-Islamic and Western political thought and intellectual history in key stations in their history, the contributors show how Platonic political theory can still bear fruit in the present day, especially in the context of dialogue between cultures.
