Shinra My Jin And Buddhist Networks Of The East Asian Mediterranean written by Sujung Kim and has been published by University of Hawaii Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-30 with Religion categories.

This ambitious work offers a transnational account of the deity Shinra Myōjin, the “god of Silla” worshipped in medieval Japanese Buddhism from the eleventh to sixteenth centuries. Sujung Kim challenges the long-held understanding of Shinra Myōjin as a protective deity of the Tendai Jimon school, showing how its worship emerged and developed in the complex networks of the East Asian “Mediterranean”—a “quality” rather than a physical space defined by Kim as the primary conduit for cross-cultural influence in a region that includes the Yellow Sea, the Sea of Japan (East Sea), the East China Sea, and neighboring coastal areas. While focusing on the transcultural worship of the deity, Kim engages the different maritime arrangements in which Shinra Myōjin circulated: first, the network of Korean immigrants, Chinese merchants, and Japanese Buddhist monks in China’s Shandong peninsula and Japan’s Ōmi Province; and second, that of gods found in the East Asian Mediterranean. Both of these networks became nodal points of exchange of both goods and gods. Kim’s examination of temple chronicles, literary writings, and iconography reveals Shinra Myōjin’s evolution from a seafaring god to a multifaceted one whose roles included the god of pestilence and of poetry, the insurer of painless childbirth, and the protector of performing arts. Shinra Myōjin and Buddhist Networks of the East Asian “Mediterranean” is not only the first monograph in any language on the Tendai Jimon school in Japanese Buddhism, but also the first book-length study in English to examine Korean connections in medieval Japanese religion. Unlike other recent studies on individual Buddhist deities, it foregrounds the need to approach them within a broader East Asian context. By shifting the paradigm from a land-centered vision to a sea-centered one, the work underlines the importance of a transcultural and interdisciplinary approach to the study of Buddhist deities.

Googled written by Ken Auletta and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-03 with Business & Economics categories.

A revealing, forward-looking examination of the outsize influence Google has had on the changing media Landscape. There are companies that create waves and those that ride or are drowned by them. As only he can, bestselling author Ken Auletta takes readers for a ride on the Google wave, telling the story of how it formed and crashed into traditional media businesses?from newspapers to books, to television, to movies, to telephones, to advertising, to Microsoft. With unprecedented access to Google?s founders and executives, as well as to those in media who are struggling to keep their heads above water, Auletta reveals how the industry is being disrupted and redefined. Using Google as a stand-in for the digital revolution, Auletta takes readers inside Google?s closed-door meetings and paints portraits of Google?s notoriously private founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, as well as those who work with?and against?them. In his narrative, Auletta provides the fullest account ever told of Google?s rise, shares the ?secret sauce? of Google?s success, and shows why the worlds of ?new? and ?old? media often communicate as if residents of different planets. Google engineers start from an assumption that the old ways of doing things can be improved and made more efficient, an approach that has yielded remarkable results? Google will generate about $20 billion in advertising revenues this year, or more than the combined prime-time ad revenues of CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX. And with its ownership of YouTube and its mobile phone and other initiatives, Google CEO Eric Schmidt tells Auletta his company is poised to become the world?s first $100 billion media company. Yet there are many obstacles that threaten Google?s future, and opposition from media companies and government regulators may be the least of these. Google faces internal threats, from its burgeoning size to losing focus to hubris. In coming years, Google?s faith in mathematical formulas and in slide rule logic will be tested, just as it has been on Wall Street. Distilling the knowledge accrued from a career of covering the media, Auletta will offer insights into what we know, and don?t know, about what the future holds for the imperiled industry.

Architecture And Nihilism written by Massimo Cacciari and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-01-01 with Architecture categories.

"Massimo Cacciari, one of the most influential social philosophers in Italy today, is the founder of the trend of criticism known as "negative thought" that focuses on the failure of traditional logic to explicate the problems of modernity. This book, which introduces his writings to an English-speaking audience, provides a striking social and philosophical account of the twentieth-century metropolis. Patrizia Lombardo's extensive introduction situates Cacciari's thought within the milieu of Italian political activism and philosophy between the 1960s and the 1980s, from his collaboration on the leftist journal Contropiano to his long association with Manfredo Tafuri." "Cacciari studies the relation between philosophy and modern architecture and applies the thinking of avant-garde architects, artists, and writers to the social and political problems raised by technological society. He begins by defining the modern metropolis, using the terms and ideas of Georg Simmel and Max Weber, but revealing where their frameworks are limited. He then examines the work of Adolf Loos and other architects and designers in early twentieth-century Vienna, showing how their architecture and criticism expose the alienation and utopianism in notions of the organic city. Cacciari demonstrates how architecture intersects with the city and the state but also with the interior of the private dwelling and with its resistance to the external world. Bringing together philosophy, sociology, urbanism, labor history, economics, and aesthetics, he helps us comprehend via these disciplines a crucial period in the history of modernity."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Bloons TD 6 is a great tower defense game that will give you hours and hours of fun. Here are some general tips to help you get started and familiarized with the game. The Bloons are back and better than ever! Get ready for a massive 3D tower defense game designed to give you hours and hours of the best strategy gaming available.Craft your perfect defense from a combination of awesome monkey towers, upgrades, Heroes, and activated abilities, then pop every last Bloon that comes your way! There's something about the monkeys and balloons in Bloons TD 6 that's simply delightful. Your cute primate friends come in all shapes and sizes from pirates to super heroes. Your enemies, the balloons, seem so innocent and innocuous - of course they would, they're balloons. Yet the scenario remains: if the balloons get to the end, you'll lose lives so your cute primates must do battle with evil. There's no story, it just is the way of the world, and it sets a tone for Bloons that evokes a childlike sense of joy that just works. It's a tower defense game that owns its world, knows its identity, and never lets itself be more than it should be. The result is a product worth the time of anyone looking for a little piece of happiness. The gameplay in Bloons is simple enough. You build monkeys, which act as the game's towers, and then upgrade them to stop wave after wave of balloons. Balloons follow a set path so you can't create a maze to slow them down, but otherwise you're free to place your towers as you please. While the game is not an action tower defense game, you can upgrade towers to have special abilities you can trigger during waves and some towers do damage based on the location of your cursor, so if you're looking for an active role during waves it's there but not required. It's simple but the towers and level design will keep you coming back for more. The variety in towers is broad. While a few seem worthless and some are clearly overpowered, there's still room to customize your strategy to the way you want to play and still find success. While some may opt for a few central towers surrounding a hub that buffs them all, others may choose to spread their towers out across the land. Either way works on most maps if you have the right upgrades, though the first is still significantly better. Better still, the towers are so absurd that you'll want to experiment and play with them all simply to see what they can be. As you play, your cannon becomes a nuclear missile, your pirate ship becomes a modern battleship and your super hero becomes a sun god. These evolutions are exciting and fun to use every time you get one which ensures you're always happy to continue building to the next step.Let's take a look at this book!
