. . . the book focuses on a very interesting and important. . . dimension of welfare analysis. . . the book provides a very rich and interesting range of analyses of the complex links between culture and welfare state. It deserves to be read both by advanced undergraduates and academics working in this area, and perhaps should also be read by policy-makers and politicians as a useful corrective to an overly economistic approach to welfare in the straitened years ahead. Rob Sykes, Social Policy and Administration The essays in this collection advance cultural analysis of the welfare state by describing the experiences of a large array of developed nations. . . Highly recommended. D. Stoesz, Choice Culture and Welfare State provides comparative studies on the interplay between cultural factors and welfare policies. Starting with an analysis of the historical and cultural foundations of Western European welfare states, reflected in the competing ideologies of liberalism, conservatism and socialism, the book goes on to compare the Western European welfare model to those in North America, Asia and Central and Eastern Europe. Comprehensive and engaging, this volume examines not only the relationships between cultural change and welfare restructuring, taking empirical evidence from policy reforms in contemporary Europe, but also the popular legitimacy of welfare, focusing particularly on the underlying values, beliefs and attitudes of people in European countries. This book will be of great interest to sociologists and political scientists, as well as social policy experts interested in a cultural perspective on the welfare state.

Generation Y in Consumer and Labour Markets explores the role of people born in the late 1970s and 1980s as consumers and coworkers in an emerging post-modernist society. Having grown up in a branded society overcrowded with commercial messages and a never-ending supply of choices and opportunities, Generation Y not only influences consumption patterns, they also bring their values to work life, thus changing the attitudes towards the employee-employer relationship and how work is being done. Generation Y particularly see work as a venue of self-realization and the boundaries between work and leisure time are becoming blurred—thus the consumer and labor markets converge in some critical dimensions. This book delves into the substantial research body on characteristics and behaviors of the Generation Y, including their relation to other generations and the role of understanding generations in developing effective and attractive organizations. It further outlines the experiences and best practice for attracting, recruiting, selling to, and communicating with Generation Y, based on the author’s experiences from hundreds of organizations where he has been involved as a consultant – offering the reader a better understanding of generations in marketing research, and the impact of generations in employee-employer relations.

Revisioning Gender written by Myra Marx Ferree and has been published by Rowman Altamira this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Social Science categories.

This comprehensive handbook attempts to summarize the state of gender studies not only by examining the crucial research of the past decade, but by encouraging thinking about how the questions central to studying gender have themselves changed. Building on the work started by the contributors to this volume's predecessor (Analyzing Gender, Sage 1987), editors Myra Marx Ferree, Judith Lorber, and Beth B. Hess reflect on the advances of gender scholarship during the past decade with its emphasis on all levels of social structure from the most macro to the most individual. Revisioning Gender is a step toward constructing a new analytical approach for the social sciences, one that calls into question disciplinary boundaries and the specific agendas entailed therein.
