Hidden hunger is not about providing enough calories, it is about a lack of micronutrients, which has life-long consequences for the children who are mostly affected. This begins with physical and cognitive developmental disorders and continues with an increased risk of non-communicable diseases and the occurrence of obesity. The book compiles the contributions of the Fourth Congress on Hidden Hunger 2019 as original articles. The focus of the congress was the problem of malnutrition and overweight, which can coexist and is termed a “double burden”. Part of the book deals with the causes of malnutrition and the challenge of achieving an agricultural system that is more focused on food quality. Another part discusses the causes and intervention approaches to tackling childhood obesity, especially in connection with malnutrition. All in all, this publication is a summary of important work by highly renowned authors on the topic of the congress: “Hidden Hunger and the Transformation of Food Systems: How to Combat the Double Burden of Malnutrition?” Like its two predecessors, the book fills an important gap by summarizing the essential aspects for science, applied research, and politics at a high level.

Regulatory Disorders In Infants written by Manfred Cierpka and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-22 with Psychology categories.

This innovative book discusses current findings on regulatory disorders in infants and offers practical guidelines for diagnosis and intervention. Focusing on core infant and toddler concerns including crying, sleeping, feeding, clinginess, and aggression, it presents a developmental continuum from normal to disturbed behavior regulation and examines science-based strategies for halting this trajectory. Case examples and widely used tools illustrate diverse approaches to assessment and diagnosis, emphasizing nuances of parent-infant interactions and parents‘ reactions that may fail to answer, or may even exacerbate, the child’s distress. And chapters outline counseling and therapy options for infants and parents, so that persistent problems do not become entrenched in children’s future behavior or lead to long-term family dysfunction. Among the topics covered: Approaches to diagnosing regulatory disorders in infants. Feeding disorders in infants and young children. Developmentally appropriate vs. persistent defiant and aggressive behavior. Treatment approaches for regulatory disorders. Video and video feedback in counseling and therapy. Regulatory Disorders in Infants is an essential resource for clinicians and practitioners as well as researchers and graduate students in clinical child and school psychology, pediatrics, social work, psychiatry, and family studies.

Hidden Hunger Strategies To Improve Nutrition Quality written by H.K. Biesalski and has been published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-17 with Medical categories.

Hidden hunger has long been an overlooked problem. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies have to be remedied and the availability of calories needs to be increased. As a matter of fact, the number of people who do not have access to a balanced diet has multiplied in rich and poor countries, with lasting consequences for health and well-being. Hidden hunger not only affects childhood growth and cognitive development, but also reduces productivity and well-being later in life, thus keeping the affected population trapped in a circle of poverty and malnutrition. This book illustrates the global fight against hunger by national governments and international organizations. Presented at the Third Hidden Hunger Conference held at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany, it presents a range of strategies being implemented in various regions of the world to improve nutrition quality and combat this international crisis.

Nutrition and exercise are the cornerstones of our health. But why actually? What exactly do weight training and endurance sports do? And how do certain foods influence our metabolism? How does sore muscles actually develop? The author, a chemist and doctor, explains in an understandable way how the body works and the influence of nutrition and exercise on our health. At the same time, he scientifically presents the correlations based on current studies, including intervention and long-term studies. He clearly describes the interactions of nutrition and exercise on body weight, metabolism, fatty tissue and hormones, the cardiovascular system, bone structure and the immune system. Each topic is clearly described on one page. A non-fiction book for all those who are interested in doing something for their health and want to know why. The 5th edition has been completely updated, adapted to the current state of knowledge and expanded to include the following topics: herbs and spices, endurance sports and hormone disorders in women, sports and painkillers, sustainable nutrition and plenty of exercise to combat climate change. Plus: glossary for looking up medical terms and extensive literature references on studies on nutrition, exercise and health.

Gender Nutrition And The Human Right To Adequate Food written by Anne C. Bellows and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-07 with Social Science categories.

This book introduces the human right to adequate food and nutrition as evolving concept and identifies two structural "disconnects" fueling food insecurity for a billion people, and disproportionally affecting women, children, and rural food producers: the separation of women’s rights from their right to adequate food and nutrition, and the fragmented attention to food as commodity and the medicalization of nutritional health. Three conditions arising from these disconnects are discussed: structural violence and discrimination frustrating the realization of women’s human rights, as well as their private and public contributions to food and nutrition security for all; many women’s experience of their and their children’s simultaneously independent and intertwined subjectivities during pregnancy and breastfeeding being poorly understood in human rights law and abused by poorly-regulated food and nutrition industry marketing practices; and the neoliberal economic system’s interference both with the autonomy and self-determination of women and their communities and with the strengthening of sustainable diets based on democratically governed local food systems. The book calls for a social movement-led reconceptualization of the right to adequate food toward incorporating gender, women’s rights, and nutrition, based on the food sovereignty framework.
