Er wird mal positiv, mal negativ benutzt, es wird von Globalisierungsverlierern und von Globalisierungsgewinnern gesprochen. Die Globalisierung wird oft als Begründung für unpopuläre Entscheidungen in vielen Bereichen, wie zum Beispiel in der Politik und der Wirtschaft, verwendet. Sie dient der Politik oftmals als Schlagwort bei der Rechtfertigung von Kürzungen bei sozialstaatlichen Leistungen oder für Standortverlegungen von Firmen. Ein Beispiel, welches noch in vielen Köpfen des Ruhrgebiets präsent ist, stellt die Standortverlegung des Nokia Werkes Bochum nach Rumänien dar. Die Schließung des Werkes im Jahr 2008 wurde von der Firmenleitung, mit dem zu hohen Kostenniveau des deutschen Standortes begründet, der unter dem globalen Druck des Marktes langfristig die Konkurrenzfähigkeit des Unternehmens gefährdete. Dieser Argumentationsansatz zeigt, dass es einfach zu sein scheint, das „Phänomen“ Globalisierung als Begründung für unpopuläre Entscheidungen heranzuziehen und als Rechtfertigungsgrundlage zu benutzen. Es kann festgehalten werden, dass Politik und Wirtschaft Globalisierung, als eine Art „politisches Schlagwort“ in der Öffentlichkeit verwenden und es nach Belieben einsetzen. Diese Arbeit hat das Ziel die Globalisierung in die aktuelle soziale Diskussion mit einzubeziehen und die Vorteile und die Chancen, sowie die Nachteile und die Risiken, die sie mit sich bringt zu analysieren. Es gilt auch zu klären, wie die Globalisierung von den Menschen, die mit ihr Leben müssen gesehen wird und welche Trends sich erkennen lassen.

This book explores the phenomenon of soft power in international relations.
