In the 1950’s and 60’s, Kansas farm life meant milking cows, gathering eggs, and butchering hogs and steers. It meant raising a garden, preparing meals from scratch, sewing clothes, and churning butter. It meant living close to the earth. It was a special time when children could wander the pastures and fields without fear and come home dirty after a day of hard play and harder work. Farmers produced much of what they needed to live, and were almost completely self-sufficient. Farm life was basic, simple and sweet, and family was the most important thing. There’s No Place Like Home is the story of a Kansas farm family. It is the unique story of life in a different time and place, before technology and automation changed how things are done on the farm. It was a time when a farm life was a family project, and everyone contributed. A collection of anecdotes and oral histories, this story includes the tales of a childhood on a Kansas farm in the mid 20th century, and the joys and regrets for generations of such a life. It is the story of a life on the Kansas prairie, a celebration of the land and people of Kansas and a re-telling of the histories of one family, recounted around the kitchen table. It tells of the struggles, hopes and disappointments of life in a simpler time and place.

Destiny In The Wind written by Dr. Amparo Bernal and has been published by Covenant Books, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-10-28 with Self-Help categories.

I wrote Destiny in the Wind between the years 1995 and 2020 while I was working as a physician at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. I was participating in worldwide medical missions and on a personal level, working on my spiritual healing and growth. During those years, I stopped writing several times, overwhelmed by the painful memories. This memoir is based on true events. I hope that my story may inspire some people who may be experiencing difficulties in life not to give up.The memoir describes my life experience and features the most significant people to me: the multiple emotional losses from my childhood; my father as a baby; my dear aunt, whom I love like a mother; when I was at the age of four; my stepfather, who was the only father I remember; when I was at the age of nine; and more. Most notable is from when I was at the age of fourteen, when I experienced a life-changing event after a plane crash, where I lost all the rest of my family. I was left in the hands of a stranger who took my innocence, my childhood, and my inheritance, and because of whom I had mothered a child at the age of sixteen. The book describes all the events that crushed my life and the way in which I rose from my tragedies, developing an unabated strength that took me to success. From finishing high school, to studying medicine, and graduating as a physician in 1980. I later migrated to the United States, where I specialized in internal medicine and got a master's degree in public health. The book describes my experiences and uses as background my country of origin, Colombia: The culture, folklore, stories of life, passion, and emotions, are all intertwined with my life events. The memoir discloses the evolution of a woman from being a lonely child full of fears into a woman of remarkable strength and indestructible character. It describes her ups and downs, as well as her strengths and weaknesses. It tells her story starting from the lowest point of her life to the highest as she attained her spirituality, great compassion, and undoubtable happiness.

In this candid and moving memoir, John W. Evans articulates the complicated joys of falling in love again as a young widower. Though heartbroken after his wife’s violent death, Evans realizes that he cannot remain inconsolable and adrift, living with his in-laws in Indiana. Motivated by a small red X on a map, Evans musters the courage for a cross-country trip. From the Badlands to Yellowstone to the foothills of the Sierra Mountains, Evans’s hope and determination propel him even as he contemplates his vulnerability and the legacy of a terrible tragedy. Should I Still Wish chronicles Evans’s efforts to leave an intense year of grief behind, to make peace with the natural world again, and to reconnect with a woman who promises, like San Francisco itself, a life of abundance and charm. With unflinching honesty Evans plumbs the uncertainties, doubts, and contradictions of a paradoxical experience in this love story, celebration of fatherhood, meditation on the afterlife of grief and resilience, and, ultimately, showcase for life’s many profound incongruities.

"When I heard my name called, I found myself bent over at the waist, shaking and jerking. I walked to the front of the church bent over like that, and people gathered around me to pray. One of the church secretaries had a handheld tape recorder, held up in the air to capture the prayers."Every Church in Town chronicles the spiritual journey of an average Middle American teenage girl growing up in a community infused with religious fervor. Set in the early to mid-1990s, this young woman has a spiritual awakening in a charismatic church surrounded by glossolalia, holy laughter, youth groups, and Christian heavy metal. She plays in her high school marching band during the school year and attends Cornerstone, a Christian music festival, during the summer. While struggling to find her place in a rapidly changing world, she wrestles with many spiritual and intellectual questions, including how to hear God's voice, whether it is wrong to date a non-Christian, whether one should go to college when the end of the world is imminent, and whether every Christian is obligated to be a Republican. In a small town with a deep socioeconomic divide, where everyone who wears plaid with stripes is suspect, this young woman searches for friendship, meaning, and salvation in a world full of plastic lecterns and Kool-Aid mustaches.
