Contemporanea is a nascent lexicon for the twenty-first century edited by seasoned philosophers and authors Michael Marder and Giovanbattista Tusa. The collection showcases perspectives from a range of noteworthy thinkers in philosophy, ecology, and cultural studies, as well as artists, from across the globe, including Slavoj Zizek, Timothy Morton, Denise Ferreira Da Silva, and Vandana Shiva, who each describe what they anticipate will be the concepts shaping the trajectory of this century—everything from the world state to the nuclear taboo, automation to Teslaism, plant sexuality to arachnomancy, and ecotrauma to resonances, to name a few. This century, as the editors explain, has to date grounded itself in the debris of the preceding century, whose revolutions and struggles failed to transform our time: post-colonialism, post-fascism, and post-liberalism have morphed into neocolonialism, neoliberalism, and neofascism, often combined in a previously unimaginable mix. And, just as the political developments at the beginning of the twenty-first century revived and reshuffled those of the preceding epoch, so too have philosophical trends sought to breathe fresh life into the stillborn -isms of the past—realism, vitalism, logicism, materialism, empiricism, criticism—adding the adjective “new” and sometimes “radical” before them. To articulate a different future, another language is needed. And, to develop another language, one needs to develop fresh concepts, including the concepts proposed in this collection. Gli ultimi due secoli della Storia portoghese presentano aspetti poco conosciuti e talvolta controversi. L’epoca napoleonica fa da spartiacque tra l’Ancien Régime e il periodo liberale anche in Portogallo, il cui sovrano, per sfuggire all’invasione francese, si rifugia in Brasile. Al suo rientro, nel 1821, i principi del liberalismo hanno acquisito importanza e si confrontano assolutisti e fautori della Costituzione; nella prima metà dell’Ottocento vengono promulgati tre testi costituzionali. Tra contrasti e guerre civili, ma anche riforme, si giunge a un sistema politico parlamentare dominato da élites che si spartiscono il potere. Emergono il declino inarrestabile della monarchia, la crisi economica, il ruolo della Chiesa, la difesa delle colonie. Nel Novecento, il regicidio, l’instaurazione della Repubblica, l’ingresso nella Grande Guerra contraddistinguono un periodo di rivolte e instabilità politica fino all’instaurazione nel 1926 di una dittatura, destinata a durare per quasi mezzo secolo. Soltanto negli anni Settanta il Paese lusitano potrà liberarsi del regime autoritario e avviarsi verso la democrazia. Storia politica contemporanea – Portogallo 1808-2000 costituisce un testo fondamentale per conoscere il percorso tramite il quale si è giunti al Portogallo di oggi, inserito nel contesto europeo. Hasta ahora, la investigación sobre los fenómenos migratorios en España se ha abordado prioritariamente desde una perspectiva sociológica, política o historiográfica. Apenas se ha prestado atención a los textos literarios que reflejan la emigración, a diferencia de lo ocurrido con los del exilio, que se han estudiado de una manera pormenorizada. Nuestro proyecto se propone colmar esta laguna, ocupándose de las dos etapas fundamentales de la migración española en la segunda mitad del siglo XX: la emigración de los españoles hacia Europa, especialmente en las décadas de los cincuenta y sesenta, y la actual inmigración hacia España. Este libro presenta un inicial balance de nuestra investigación y en él se estudian por primera vez las obras narrativas y teatrales contemporáneas que tratan el tema candente de la inmigración en España. Dada la dificultad de mantener la diferencia de perspectiva y de acotar cronológicamente el material, el estudio del léxico pone entre paréntesis las fronteras temporales y abarca tanto la emigración como la inmigración.
