Hacker Culture And The New Rules Of Innovation written by Tim Rayner and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-28 with Business & Economics categories.

Fifteen years ago, a company was considered innovative if the CEO and board mandated a steady flow of new product ideas through the company’s innovation pipeline. Innovation was a carefully planned process, driven from above and tied to key strategic goals. Nowadays, innovation means entrepreneurship, self-organizing teams, fast ideas and cheap, customer experiments. Innovation is driven by hacking, and the world’s most innovative companies proudly display their hacker credentials. Hacker culture grew up on the margins of the computer industry. It entered the business world in the twenty-first century through agile software development, design thinking and lean startup method, the pillars of the contemporary startup industry. Startup incubators today are filled with hacker entrepreneurs, running fast, cheap experiments to push against the limits of the unknown. As corporations, not-for-profits and government departments pick up on these practices, seeking to replicate the creative energy of the startup industry, hacker culture is changing how we think about leadership, work and innovation. This book is for business leaders, entrepreneurs and academics interested in how digital culture is reformatting our economies and societies. Shifting between a big picture view on how hacker culture is changing the digital economy and a detailed discussion of how to create and lead in-house teams of hacker entrepreneurs, it offers an essential introduction to the new rules of innovation and a practical guide to building the organizations of the future.

Hacked written by Kevin F. Steinmetz and has been published by NYU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-29 with Social Science categories.

Inside the life of a hacker and cybercrime culture. Public discourse, from pop culture to political rhetoric, portrays hackers as deceptive, digital villains. But what do we actually know about them? In Hacked, Kevin F. Steinmetz explores what it means to be a hacker and the nuances of hacker culture. Through extensive interviews with hackers, observations of hacker communities, and analyses of hacker cultural products, Steinmetz demystifies the figure of the hacker and situates the practice of hacking within the larger political and economic structures of capitalism, crime, and control. This captivating book challenges many of the common narratives of hackers, suggesting that not all forms of hacking are criminal and, contrary to popular opinion, the broader hacker community actually plays a vital role in our information economy. Hacked thus explores how governments, corporations, and other institutions attempt to manage hacker culture through the creation of ideologies and laws that protect powerful economic interests. Not content to simply critique the situation, Steinmetz ends his work by providing actionable policy recommendations that aim to redirect the focus from the individual to corporations, governments, and broader social issues. A compelling study, Hacked helps us understand not just the figure of the hacker, but also digital crime and social control in our high-tech society.

Abstract Hacktivism written by Otto von Busch and has been published by Openmute this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Cyberspace categories.

In recent years, designers, activists and businesspeople have started to navigate their social worlds on the basis of concepts derived from the world of computers and new media technologies. According to Otto von Busch and Karl Palmas, this represents a fundamental cultural shift. The conceptual models of modern social thought, as well as the ones emanating from the 1968 revolts, are being usurped by a new worldview. Using thinkers such as Michel Serres, Gilles Deleuze and Manuel DeLanda as a point of departure, the authors expand upon the idea that everyday technologies are profoundly interconnected with dominant modes of thought. In the nineteenth century, the motor replaced the clockwork as the universal model of knowledge. In a similar vein, new media technologies are currently replacing the motor as the dominant 'conceptual technology' of contemporary social thought. This development, von Busch and Palmas argue, has yielded new ways of construing politics, activism and innovation. The authors embark on different routes to explore this shift. Otto von Busch relates the practice of hacking to phenomena such as shopdropping, craftivism, fan fiction, liberation theology, and Spanish social movement YOMANGO. Karl Palmas examines how publications like Adbusters Magazine, as well as business theorists, have adopted a computer-inspired worldview, linking this development to the dot.com boom of the late 1990s. Hence, the text is written for designers and activists, as well as for the general reader interested in cultural studies.

Hacking Europe written by Gerard Alberts and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-03 with Computers categories.

Hacking Europe traces the user practices of chopping games in Warsaw, hacking software in Athens, creating chaos in Hamburg, producing demos in Turku, and partying with computing in Zagreb and Amsterdam. Focusing on several European countries at the end of the Cold War, the book shows the digital development was not an exclusively American affair. Local hacker communities appropriated the computer and forged new cultures around it like the hackers in Yugoslavia, Poland and Finland, who showed off their tricks and creating distinct “demoscenes.” Together the essays reflect a diverse palette of cultural practices by which European users domesticated computer technologies. Each chapter explores the mediating actors instrumental in introducing and spreading the cultures of computing around Europe. More generally, the “ludological” element--the role of mischief, humor, and play--discussed here as crucial for analysis of hacker culture, opens new vistas for the study of the history of technology.

Beyond Machines Of Loving Grace written by Rafael Evangelista and has been published by Edições Sesc this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-31 with Political Science categories.

Through a historical cross section dating back to the 1950s, the journalist and social scientist with a PhD in Anthropology Rafael Evangelista presents an original approach to hackers, those individuals passionate about technology who acquire prestige among their peers facing complex problems and acting creatively in software development. The author shows how hacking became consolidated in the free software movement and how this technological mobilization, rooted in collaborative practices and in the production of the common, found in Brazil a fertile ground for its expansion. According to Evangelista, hacking action and ethics were decisive in building systems that organize digital communication networks and in how we use them today. Far from being an apology for the potentials of the great calculators that were named computers at the time, Rafael Evangelista devotes part of the book to the risks to democracy posed by possibilities of control and surveillance of citizens. With a title that alludes to the poem by Richard Brautigan ("All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace"), this book is the second volume of the Digital Democracy series, edited by professor and sociologist Sergio Amadeu da Silveira and published exclusively in digital format.
