Does God still speak to His children? I know that God still speaks to His children. It just takes listening and being aware of our surroundings, to recognize the little things that seem to tug at our hearts. I decided that I wanted to share the lessons that I received from God through some very unusual items and from meditating on God's Word. I wanted others to know that God does speak to them. The parables, as I like to call them, came to me through random items, at random time, and in random places. Lessons came through everyday life, whether I was walking, doing housework, playing, or just relaxing. Some lessons came in the morning, some at midday, and some at night. God is always talking. Take a little time each day to spend special time with God. Cast your cares on Him. Make your petitions known to Him. Once you have poured your whole heart out, just listen. Enjoy the time with Him, knowing He is with you. It doesn't take intelligence. It doesn't take being perfect, doing everything right. Sometimes we can try too hard to hear God, but when we just walk with Him, just enjoy His presence, we then start to hear His voice. All you have to do is take the time with Him. So grab yourself a cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy the parables of today.

We purpose giving a series of studies on the thirteenth chapter of Matthew, which, in the writer's judgment, is, from the standpoint of prophecy, the most important chapter of all the New Testament. There is much in God's prophetic program which must necessarily remain dark until the parables of this chapter are thoroughly mastered. At present they are much misunderstood and misinterpreted. It will be found that in Matthew 13:10, 11 the Lord Jesus has designated these seven parables ""mysteries of the kingdom of heaven."" This expression ""the kingdom of heaven"" comprehends in a brief form the contents of the whole chapter. This will be seen by a reference to verses 24, 31, 33, etc., where it will be found that each of the last six parables begin with ""the kingdom of heaven is like unto."" What is meant by this expression? There is perhaps no term in Scripture used so extensively, but which is so little understood. Though it is found in Matthew's Gospel only, yet it occurs there no less than thirty-two times.

Revelation is about the resurrected Christ, His church, and the world. More than any other prophetic book of the Bible, the prophecies of Revelation are presented in symbolic form; that is, pictures, rather than words, are used to convey the message. Parables were used by Jesus to reveal to us the kingdom of God and to move us from being bystanders to active recipients of God's work of revelation. However, parables are constantly at risk of being buried as 'mummies of prose', as George MacDonaldputs it. We become so familiar with the language of Scripture that Jesus' parables no longer work on us in this revelatory and transforming way. George MacDonald, the Victorian poet and theologian, observed this very process at work in Victorian society. It was a culture saturated with Christian jargon but often devoid of a profound understanding of the gospel for its own time and culture. The language of Scripture no longer penetrated people's hearts, imaginations, and attitudes; it no longer transformed people's lives. MacDonald, called to be a pastor, turned a story and more specifically the 'parabolic' as a means of spiritual awakening. He created fictive worlds in which the language of Jesus would find a new home and regain its revelatory power for his particular Victorian audience.
