Séduire une vierge et coucher avec elle ? Pari tenu.

Urban High School Students and the Challenge of Access documents a year in the life of five adolescents preparing for college. The text examines the different pathways that brought these students to where they are: living in poverty, attending overcrowded schools, and the pressure to be the first in their families to attend college are just a few of the challenges these students must battle en route to college, and that impact their chances of success once there. Their stories provide insight for practitioners and policy makers working to improve college access at urban high schools.

High Challenge Low Threat written by Mary Myatt and has been published by John Catt Educational this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Education categories.

High Challenge, Low Threat is Mary Myatt's smart and thoughtful exploration of all the things that wise leaders do. Informed through thousands of conversations over a 20-year period in education, Mary shows the lessons that school management teams can learn from leaders in a wide range of other sectors and points to the conditions which these leaders create to allow colleagues to engage with difficult issues enthusiastically and wholeheartedly. This book makes the case that any leadership role is concerned primarily with the relationships between individuals. It is the quality of these, whatever the size of the organisation, which make the difference between organisations which thrive, and those which stagnate. This is not to argue for soft, easy and comfortable options. Instead it considers how top leaders manage to walk the line between the impossible and the possible, between the undoable and the doable, and to create conditions for productive work which transcend the difficulties which come towards us every day. Instead of dodging them, they embrace them. And by navigating high challenge, low threat, they show how others how to do the same.

The Linguistic Challenge Of The Transition To Secondary School written by Alice Deignan and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-30 with Education categories.

This book provides a unique analysis and description of the linguistic challenges faced by school students as they move from primary to secondary school, a major transition, which some students struggle with emotionally and academically. The study: • draws on a bespoke corpus of 2.5 million words of written materials and transcribed classroom recordings, provided by the project's partner schools; • combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to the corpus data to explore linguistic variation across school levels, registers and subjects; • describes the procedures of corpus compilation and analysis of written and spoken academic language, showing how modern corpus tools can be applied to this far-reaching social and educational issue; • uncovers differences and similarities between the academic language that school children are exposed to at primary and secondary school, contrasting this against the backdrop of the non-academic language that they encounter outside school. This book is important reading for advanced students and researchers in corpus linguistics, applied linguistics and teacher education. It carries implications for policymakers and schools looking to support students at this critical point in their schooling.

Packed with ideas and practical details for teachers of STEM subjects, the new revised edition of this book: ■ considers what the STEM subjects contribute separately to the curriculum and how they relate to each other in the wider education of secondary school students; ■ describes and evaluates different curriculum models for STEM; ■ suggests ways in which a critical approach to the pedagogy of the classroom, laboratory and workshop can support and encourage all pupils to engage fully in STEM; ■ addresses the practicalities of introducing, organising and sustaining STEM-related activities in the secondary school; ■ looks to ways schools can manage and sustain STEM approaches in the long-term. This new revised edition is essential reading for trainee and practising teachers, those engaged in further professional development and all who wish to make the learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics an interesting, motivating and exciting experience for their students.

The Charter School Challenge written by Bryan C. Hassel and has been published by Brookings Institution Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-01 with Education categories.

Charter schools have become a national phenomenon, garnering praise from both Democrats and Republicans. Because they appear to sidestep both political stalemate and the practical difficulty of implementing widespread change--the traditional barriers to improvement in American public education--charter schools hold great promise as an educational reform. Now, with charter laws on the books in more than thirty states, Bryan Hassel investigates whether charter schools have been able to avoid the pitfalls that have tripped up so many other "revolutionary" school reforms. After a broad overview of how charter laws have been adopted nationwide, this book focuses in depth on charter schools in Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Michigan. Hassel reviews the four states' implementation of charter laws and whether their programs are providing sufficient autonomy, resources, and potential to influence the broader education system--all essential components for charter schools' success. He concludes that if states want to give charter schools a full test, they should empower nonlocal entities to approve charter schools, establish the schools as distinct local entities, allow full per-pupil funding to go with students to the charter schools, and impose minimal constraints on the source and number of charter schools. The schools themselves will need to improve their infrastructure, and charter-granting agencies will have to rebuild the systems for monitoring schools' academic results and compliance with regulations. These policies are vital if charter schools are to realize their potential as a significant educational reform.

The Challenge Of School Reform written by Lewis C. Solmon and has been published by IAP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-10-01 with Education categories.

This work expands on the ideas and themes discussed in the first two volumes in this series on education policy: The first book — Talented Teachers: The Essential Force for Improving Student Achievement — examines the importance of teacher quality. Years of research have repeatedly confirmed what we inferred to be true—outside of the home environment, the quality of a student’s teacher has the strongest impact on learning. After talented teachers were found to be a powerful component for bettering education, the second book — Improving Student Achievement: Reforms that Work — introduces reform ideas and programs that positively impact both teacher quality and student work. Now, The Challenges of School Reform: Implementation, Impact, and Sustainability deepens these discussions by exploring the answers to questions regarding ensuring the longevity and sustained success of effective school reform.
