Nobody but the author would have dared to demand that the Chilean military revolution be given the same status as the French or the Russian Revolutions, for their worldly importance, that it deserves, both in socioeconomic matters, in which it pioneered, and even in human rights aspects. For the latter were used against Chile by the USSR and satellites, but finally derived in the main cause of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the iron curtain altogether. Ironically, communist regimes lasted less in time than the Pinochet and the junta government in Chile. The author, in his abundant and sustained writings for half a century in the prominent and traditional newspaper El Mercurio of Santiago, and in the last decade in blogdehermogenes.blogspot.com and his numerous books, has emphasized something that the mainstream media in his country and in the world have neglected: the extra cost imposed to Chile by its defense against the generalized, long, and violent terrorist armed aggression that was financed and promoted by countries such as Cuba, the USSR, and East Germany. This book also emphasizes the surprising fact that the Chilean revolution, which restored both the country’s democracy and its economy, had to bear the cost of the Western countries taking sides with its enemies, imposing an extra burden on its defense against totalitarianism.

Fighting Unemployment In Twentieth Century Chile written by Ángela Vergara and has been published by University of Pittsburgh Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-13 with History categories.

In Fighting Unemployment in Twentieth-Century Chile, Ángela Vergara narrates the story of how industrial and mine workers, peasants and day laborers, as well as blue-collar and white-collar employees earned a living through periods of economic, political, and social instability in twentieth-century Chile. The Great Depression transformed how Chileans viewed work and welfare rights and how they related to public institutions. Influenced by global and regional debates, the state put modern agencies in place to count and assist the poor and expand their social and economic rights. Weaving together bottom-up and transnational approaches, Vergara underscores the limits of these policies and demonstrates how the benefits and protections of wage labor became central to people’s lives and culture, and how global economic recessions, political oppression, and abusive employers threatened their working-class culture. Fighting Unemployment in Twentieth-Century Chile contributes to understanding the profound inequality that permeates Chilean history through a detailed analysis of the relationship between welfare professionals and the unemployed, the interpretation of labor laws, and employers’ everyday attitudes.

The Cuban revolution served as a rallying cry to people across Latin America and the Caribbean. The revolutionary regime has provided vital support to the rest of the region, offering everything from medical and development assistance to training and advice on guerrilla warfare. Cuba and Revolutionary Latin America is the first oral history of Cuba’s liberation struggle. Drawing on a vast array of original testimonies, Dirk Kruijt looks at the role of both veterans and the post-Revolution fidelista generation in shaping Cuba and the Americas. Featuring the testimonies of over sixty Cuban officials and former combatants, Cuba and Revolutionary Latin America offers unique insight into a nation which, in spite of its small size and notional pariah status, remains one of the most influential countries in the Americas.

The State Literacy And Popular Education In Chile 1964 1990 written by Robert Austin and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Education categories.

The popular education and adult literacy movements in Chile have historically represented competing paths toward a literate society: one born and nurtured through bitter nineteenth-century labor struggles, the other a compensatory effort by the modern state to limit the political potential of literacy. Robert Austin's book explores the contest between the state and popular education in three paradigmatic Latin American regimes: that of Eduardo Frei Montalva (Christian Democrat, 1964-70), Salvador Allende (Socialist, 1970-73) and Augusto Pinochet (Dictator, 1973-90). Robert Austin's engaging narrative captures the relationship between the Chilean state, formal and non-formal literacy, and popular education, from the demise of liberal capitalism to the consolidation of neoliberalism. This remarkable investigation of the dynamic link between the historical process, literacy, and pedagogy celebrates popular education's victory in securing the inclusion, and subsequent empowerment, of women and ethnic minorities. The State, Literacy, and Popular Education in Chile, 1964-1990 will be of great interest to political scientists, cultural historians, and scholars of education.
